Hi

I've lost the USB Bluetooth dongle for a full keyboard for my laptop. PCWorld saying need to replace both parts .... true? Just trying to avoid unnecessary waste if nothing else.

Thanks

What is the keyboard ( and the laptop ) ?

Some wireless keyboards aren't Bluetooth ..

Can you connect the keyboard to your phone without a dongle ?

Plenty of Bluetooth dongles on amazon .. if that's what you need

( though given that keyboard/mouse and dongle don't cost much more than a Bluetooth dongle .. it might not be worth it )

What's the laptop?

Unless it is very old, I would have thought it would have BT built in.

In which case, the keyboard is likely not BT at all but just "wireless" .... if that's true then, unless it's a unifying Logitech one, chances are you'll need to replace the KB and it's dongle (package).

What brand? Some can be re-linked, some can't.

i.e. I think Microsoft stuff requires the same dongle, but Logitech for instance can be re-tethered - unifying adapter or something along those lines.

Some Logitech can, some can’t use the unifying receiver.

I'd get a unifying adapter and this should solve your issue.

ETA : £9 worth a gamble anyway https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-993-000439-Unify...tongue outla-347562326630&psc=1

"NOTE: This receiver is only compatible with devices that carry the orange Unifying logo"

There is another one at £11.25 - which might be more universal... Only you will know - as you haven't told us model numbers or any other identifying information smile

Be careful as it seems that some K270s use a Nano receiver & some use a Unified receiver - you can usually tell by a small orange star logo on the keyboard/mouse & receiver. I haven't found anywhere to get a non-Unified receiver & I can't try my K270 on a Unified one as the Logitech software doesn't see the Unified receiver when it's plugged in.

If you feel like trying a Unified one Amazon have them but I'd buy a Logitech one rather than a clone:

eBay have some unifying and non unifying. Non unifying are £20 from the US. At this point I’d just buy a new keyboard...get one with a unifying receiver or Bluetooth though and you’ll be OK going forward.

That's a £20 keyboard and mouse set, just get a new one imo
