City cars for tall people.

My wife had a Honda Jazz (2007) as her daily tuk tuk which has give up the ghost, looking for a used replacement. Being a 6'2 former rugby player I have never enjoy the driving position.

We tested the newer Jazz which seemed an even worse design, the dashboard robs the passengers seat of legroom and I couldn't actually see the top of the instrument cluster when driving as it was obscured by the wheel which you where forced to sit right over by the seat. Tested the Audi A3 and, while it was comfortable once inside, it took a bit of contortion to get in. VW Polo was actually the best I've tried yet.

What else should I try before I buy? My daily is an '03 Camry which is quite comfortable for me.

If Audi A3 size is ok try out a bmw 1 series, had to drive one a few times and at 6’4” I found space fine. Wouldn’t get someone in behind me while driving very well though.

Our i3 is pretty comfortable for a taller person (i'm 6'3") although rear legroom is challenging if i had the seat right back where i'd like it

What about something like a Berlingo? They aren't that big I don't think, but they are quite tall, and they are very cheap.

Or go old school and get a Bedford Rascal. if I can fit, then so can you

Just bought a Panda 0.9, quite spritely for a small engine. Mine doesn’t have adjustable height on the seat but I think you can spec it

In that case just get a Mini, rear seat space is laughable but there's plenty room up front.

I'm of average height, but have long legs and I find most small cars a struggle to drive. To sit close enough to the wheel to steer my legs are usually bent double, often jammed into the indicator stalks or parts of the dashboard. The stretch to the steering wheel also gives me shoulder pain after a while.

Small cars I've found that are more accommodating are: Mini, Skoda Fabia, 1 series, and the Golf. I drive my wife's C1 for short distances and its ok, but I wouldn't want to drive more than a few miles in it.

At 6’4”, I have headroom to spare in an MGB and a 1982 Scirocco.

Seat mounted to the floor, not on rails.
Plenty of legroom to stretch out means the dashboard height/shape/location is not an issue.

Seat height and legroom are key.

Vauxhall Viva or VW Up.
Despite the steering wheel only having up/down adjustment and not in-out, it's easier to get a comfy driving position than many cars in the next size class (e.g. Clio, Fiesta etc).

Oh yes - I'll second the Up as well

My mum has one for her car, but my dad, my brother and I have all used it at times and none of us have issues - my dad is 6'2", I'm 6'5" and my brother is 6'7" and none of us have issue with space in there, its very cleverly packaged so you can sit very comfortably within it.

I'm 6ft and have loads of headroom. I've had my 5'11" dad, 6'1" mate and 5'6" mum in the car with no issues.

6'3" here - I use our Polo most days. It was the best of all the little cars we tested before we bought it as our runaround car. Seat right back and on the floor but room behind me though!

Another vote for the i3. I'm nearly as tall as speedy_thrills and the car is really easy to get in and out of the front seats. Not so much the rears, though, Very comfortable seats and (high) driving position.
