Seems TFL are having a field day with extra 20 Mph zones starting on 2nd March.

Sure some will say they can only dream of 20 Mph on some of those roads.

This is nothing new, I commute from Beckenham-City. On the journey all Lewisham borough roads are already 20mph (and widely ignored by everybody), the same will happen here.

When these zones are introduced, they won't be policed, myself and other bikes will continue ignoring them and riding to the conditions/traffic levels.

Around Dulwich and Brixton I have noticed the cameras are now sensitive to anyone doing more than 25mph (my guess). I've seen loads of people getting flashed.

I see people flashed at Brockley Rise weekly

Given the Met's intended aim to increase enforcement to 1m+ offences a year (up from 160k) I'm sure we will all be kowtowing to zombifying 20mph limits quite soon...

There is one near me just down near hootenany on Effra Road/Tulse Hill - you stand there for a few minutes you'll see 2 or 3 people get done by it.

I got a video the other day on my phone, I stood there for 1 minute maybe and it got 3 people.

Although speed limits don't apply to a pushbike (e-bikes stop helping at 15.5mph) - except certain areas like royal parks.

Yep - I have to be on it to slow enough for the camera - seems totally pedestrian

I recently attended a speed awareness course in London and the presenters were saying they had been inundated with the increase in 20mph zones. There were people on the course who had been caught doing 22 in a 20 zone!

That would seem to go against ACPO guidelines of 10%+2mph.

They don't exist anymore and are historic.

The 20mph zones only ever get obeyed by the poor people who have some sort of insurance black box fitted and they are obvious because they are the ones getting overtaken by all and sundry !!!

in 20mph zones vehicles move more smoothly, with fewer accelerations and decelerations, than in 30mph zones. This smoother driving style actually reduces particulate emissions from tyre and brake wear.
You don't need to spend much time on London's roads to know that the 20mph signs are widely ignored. And the endless speed humps cause endless acceleration and deceleration, much to the annoyance of everyone living nearby.

I live at the end of a mini high street which has been made 20mph recently. I would say that about a third of the drivers don’t make
any attempt to slow down from 30 and some drive through it at double the limit - premium/bling cars tend to be the worst offenders.

Really? I wasn't aware of that.

Black Box sufferers are soon to be joined by all the TfL Buses (if they aren't already), so we'll all be stuck behind dithering people more often.
