Undercharged for a car - do you pay the difference?
Discussion
Just like when something similar happens in a supermarket, the big faceless corporation can easily suck up the loss and you
get to feel that warm feeling that just maybe things are going your way for a change.
However just as in the supermarket it's the checkout operator that bears the consequences in terms of a telling off, disciplinary action, or financial penalty because their till didn't balance correctly at the end of the shift, the person who processed your transaction incorrectly will no doubt suffer a similar fate.
Do they deserve that punishment in your opinion?

The last car I bought was something like £12,465.17. I paid a £100 deposit to hold the car until i could view it etc. Liked it, arranged a loan.
The loan provider would only do whole pounds so they paid the dealer £12,465, I drove away in the car and thought no more of it.
About 3 months later I received an envelope with nothing but a cheque inside for £99.83 - took me ages to figure out it was from the dealer returning my £100 deposit, but keeping the 17p the loan company hadn't paid them. Cheeky f*ckers.
Unless they come looking for it, don't offer it up.

I'm guessing if you don't pay then somebody (salesman/business manager/sales manager) will get a in the crap.
It's a lot to do with Karma for me. I'd pay it.
I've only ever bought 2 Approved Used Cars from main dealers. It's a lot to do with Karma for me. I'd pay it.
If that had happened with the first one I would have happily paid the difference as the service I got was fantastic.
But I got such appalling service for the 2nd one I'd have happily let the salesperson/his boss take it in the neck!
IMHO you get what you deserve.

I got undercharged for a car, they took £XX'196.00 rather than £XX'916.00
This was the best part of 4 weeks ago no, they called to tell me they made an error - Do you pay the difference?
Are you going back to them for servicing, warranty or anything similar etc.? If so, definitely pay up.This was the best part of 4 weeks ago no, they called to tell me they made an error - Do you pay the difference?
But as others say, if that’s the price on the invoice / order form, difficult not to pay up given they have noticed the error.

How would you feel if it was the other way round?
And I bet you'd soon want money back if they'd overcharged you.

The reason being is that they will be using software to reconcile the accounts, and if the numbers don't add up, it's far more work to 'fudge' the figures. The loan provider would only do whole pounds so they paid the dealer £12,465, I drove away in the car and thought no more of it.

Just be thankful they gave you the money back.

As a fully grown man you can do whatever the flip you want.
If it were me I’d give it back because it’s right and honest. The crucial factor here is that they KNOW it’s your transaction, and you’re on CCTV and there is no argument.
If it were unattended cash on the floor with no means of Identifying the owner then by all means pocket it. With the extensive paper trail created when you buy a car and pay on card, it’s glaringly obvious to all involved and you simply cannot get away with it.
