Bad manners and rubbish replies from sellers
Discussion
I’m pretty much always on the lookout for another car or selling mine and then looking at what’s around next.
Call me old but it’s starting to grind my gears when for instance I send a question to an eBay seller that is not a stupid question but may be one that they’ve been asked a hundred times and the reply is one word or poorly composed etc..
When selling I’ve always put together a decent advert and decent replies to any question asked but these people can’t be arsed to put together a reply that makes any sense or pop a hello or a thanks on there.
As above they may have been asked a hundred times but pop it on the advert and ok that stops.
I’m probably getting old.

To be fair to sellers, they do tend to get fed up with "best price m8?" questions.Call me old but it’s starting to grind my gears when for instance I send a question to an eBay seller that is not a stupid question but may be one that they’ve been asked a hundred times and the reply is one word or poorly composed etc..

As someone attempting to sell a car last year, the conduct and language skills of some buyers was equally baffling.
Car was up for sale for say £40k.
80s car, so I would imagine, not a purchase without consideration.
Message from prospective buyer, in its entirety,
“25k?”
To which I responded.
“No”.
At least it didn’t waste any time.

I can understand that and buyers can be just as bad but as a seller it’s surely in your best interest to at least stick something decent together rather than sounding like an idiot. Likewise with the how much question, I understand why someone would not give a decent reply but if someone sends a decent question just answer it with a half decent answer. As I’ve said a few times, I’m getting old
I sold a car fairly recently... It was an absolute PITA.
The amount of stupid questions, ridiculous low offers without even so much as a Hi, the amount of questions you are asked, reply to, then never hear another word, asking questions that answers are clearly in the advert. It got very irritating to the point I started ignoring queries unless they stated they wanted to view it.
Worked out in the end.
I can see why some come across as rude or disinterested, I probably did by time I got into the second week.
I must be old school, if I'm interested in a car, I call and actually talk. That way, shows I'm interested, I get a rough read on the seller, can ask what I want quickly and arranging viewing.

Like you by the sounds of things, I buy and sell my own car fairly regularly. I like trying new things and I’m always on the lookout for a well priced motor I can run for a bit, tidy up, give a nice detail to and sell on without losing too much.
Usually the first person to actually see my car buys it. That’s happened 13/15 times in the last 3 or so years. I get them looking fantastic. There are wayyyy too many people before that point who just waste your time not reading the advert, asking already answered questions, or just being silly trying their luck with a stupid price when they’re not even interested in the car.
I always try to be polite but I’ll be very to the point with people doing the above. You can tell the people who are serious and interested a mile off and they’ll get a longer more thorough response.
Either we’re getting old or the internet is making people more and more lazy.

Pretty much this. I do understand why people do it but you should be able to work out who is a dick. Usually the first person to actually see my car buys it. I’ve got a motorbike up on Facebook marketplace and the amount of speculative time wasting is off the charts. It’s not even a particularly good bike. Direct messaging makes it much easier for people to get the buzz of feeling like a serious buyer, when really they aren’t. I must have had 50+ enquiries, none serious. Via auto trader, one phone call. Time wasters are more averse to picking the phone up.
I swap cars all the time, always got 3 or 4 on the go, so always changing something.
Things I have found are...
That if your advert details absolutely everything, you will still get silly questions.
You can price it cheapest in the country and someone will bid you a silly offer. (Just reply "No problem, more than I need for a deposit but up to you, balance to be paid on collection via bank transfer.")
Nearly every single one of my buyers have done it all through email and text with the first time we have actually talked is when they come to view/buy.
I'm the same, much easier to start conversation with "Is it still for sale?" and take it from there.
I don't want to listen to an hour of someone telling me how much they love it and will really miss it, which is what always seems to happen when you call. Haha
Not aimed at your guys, but those that have wanted to talk on the phone, which I am fine with, expect it to be like new, or that you have done loads of work for something that doesn't even happen to 90% of cars, have often not turned up for the viewing or when they get here say "I'm looking at loads of cars this week, don't really want a BMW, but thought I would come and see it anyway."
Then when buying the advert is often really poor, so you email them asking the basics and you may ask 3 or 4 questions because you are 150 miles away, like...
Decent full service history?
Belts done on time?
How are the tyres?
Everything like climate all working OK?
And you get a reply saying "come view".
This is often with £20-30k cars as well. Do you want to sell it?

When the time comes to sell my car, I am also not looking forward to the number of potential buyers who will faff abt and waste time.it just seems much easier and less hassle to lose a couple of hundred and sell as p/x to a main dealer. It's just unecessary headache. I lost a fair bit of money on my last car sale as it went to a main dealer in p/X for my current car but to be fair it had a fair few issues and they didn't even as much as blink let alone look at the car..it was simply we will give you X amount for p/x, no complaints from me!

Last time I sold a car via Auto trader what got me were the people who thought it was ok to ring at silly times like 11 pm.
Who in their right mind thinks they'll ring up a prospective seller late in the evening?
I always put in the advert "Please call between 9am and 7pm, or if outside these times text and I will call you back as soon as I am free". Who in their right mind thinks they'll ring up a prospective seller late in the evening?
But so few calls, nearly always get emails.
Also, when it is a number only, and the hidden number, I never seem to get an answer, I do wonder if their system actually works properly?
My email in the advert or in one of the photos, as I'm not sure their email system works either, so many emails sent with so few replies.

I think that some of the US car shows on Discovery (e.g. Fast ‘n Loud) are responsible for this - how many times do you see Richard Rawlings go to view a car, the owner says he wants $80k, Rawlings offers $30k and the settle somewhere around $50k?Car was up for sale for say £40k.

I’ve just sold my e46 touring on the bay
Had a basic description as was selling spares or repair’s
It has been sat for 2 years wasn’t looking forward to selling it so had put it off, I had 3 or 4 give you 5 quid type questions one who asked some normal questions
And one asking if I had a fixed price in mind,
It sold to the highest bidder who promptly picked it up
And gave me the cash no quibbles, was also the same person who asked if I had a fixed price, was quite pleased with not having to much hassle in the end
And was pleasantly surprised

I get annoyed when I ask a polite, well worded question but get a rude answer, or better still just a 1 word reply.
I reckon all the offers you get are just Bradford Mike Brewers who've lined up 20 cars for that day, shoot a derisory offer then move on to the next. It must work some times otherwise they wouldnt do it...

I thought you was on about this forum for a minute. Bad manners and rubbish replies seems to be what you get on here at least sixty percent of the time. I'll probably have grammar police on me just for this reply soon.
Were.To be fair, his reply did make me chuckle.
I agree with you though, so many on here just want to be an arse these days.
