Caterham warranty and LSD - advice please
Discussion
Two 2 year old Caterham 420R.'s
Both in for service and flat floor set up with a racing team independent.
We asked them to take a look at the diffs because of noise.
1. They were set up with zero pre-load which is incorrect
2. We have been told that they have excessive wear. Mine has done 850 miles, my brother's more like 4,500 miles.
We notified within warranty, but have been told by Caterham that we have to pay to have the diffs removed, and no guarantee we get labour back if any fault is found, unless there is catastrophic failure. Just to have the diffs removed is about £400 each. To replace the diffs, about £1000 in total.
Two questions. Firstly do diffs set at zero pre-load wear out any less or more quickly. Secondly has anyone else experienced this issue and successfully claimed on the warranty?
many thanks

I have had two cars (2016 &2017) with problem Lsd’s when the carbon plates have failed and i have had to pay for repairs. In the first instance i had to pay the labour for removing and refitting the diff and Caterham accepted liability on the diff under warranty, in the second it was out of warranty and i had to pay for repairs, this after being assured the car had sintered steel plates. Whilst Caterham have tried to be helpful in both cases, i think they should have accepted full liability for using carbon plates which have been widely regarded as not being fit for purpose.
