I accept it's outrageous, treating anyone like this but we aren't in the US and what basis is there to award such a sum. It's bonkers. She wasn't the CEO. The judge has essentially told her she can have 20 years income in one swoop.

Complainent joined the DWP branch in Caerphilly as a full-time administrative officer in 2017,
Complainent went on sick leave in March 2017 and was unlawfully dismissed in October that year for being unable to return to work,

Ker-ching!
So she joined the department in 2017
By all accounts got treated really rather badly by other staff
Went on sick leave in March 2017
Dismissed in October 2017.
So at most did about 10 weeks work (or showed up for 10 weeks anyway) and it's cost the taxpayer £386,000.
But according to that story none of the other staff have been disciplined despite costing us £386,000.
Does seem to be an extraordinarily high payout for a paperwork shuffler.

It doesn't seem that the people involved have been sacked or prosecuted?
Why the f
k not?
It's completely unacceptable to just dish out £400k and consider it job jobbed. Get rid of the f
king scum that caused the £400k liability at the absolute least.

Unless you've worked in the public sector, you have no idea how bad it can be.
It's like the eastern block in the 60s, tinpot dictators, the stasi and the politburo rolled into one.
If they take a dislike to you, you're screwed. Good luck to her.

ksIf you disagree I suspect you're one of the guilty ones.
Are you a union rep by any chance?

Loss of future earning potential may be part of it, given they kiboshed her DWP career.

Total Award after Grossing up at 40% £386,059.73Am assuming that the slightly open handed payout is taxable, so this is just throwing money from DWP to HMRC, yes?

Thanks
I do wonder what people would consider a "fair" sum for enduring that sort of abuse.
My daughter once worked in DWP. It was almost full of little Hitlers, frequently screaming at junior staff for minor infractions of processes even before training sessions had been attended. Fear rules and more than a few managers made life a misery for newbies. Daughter left and went to work in a women's prison. That was remarkably different and progressive. DWP is hell.
