I'm probably about to pick up a BMW that comes with comfort access.

Couple of questions please.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent faraday pouch for a BMW sized key?! I guess I need to check their effectiveness after about six months too?

I have Carly, can comfort access be disabled with that?

I have heard that BMW are offering replacement keys/coding at a discount. Has anyone had this? Was there an issue explaining to their local dealer that this scheme existed?!

Thanks.

Most of our cars have comfort access. We just put the keys in a biscuit tin at the rear of the house. It seems to do the trick. Can't open the door even when the tin is taken outside onto the drive. As soon as you open the lid (even crack it) the doors will open.

Lead is the most effective material you can reasonably source on the open market if you wish to block RF.

Having a car with a key instead of a transmitter is more effective still.

Not with Carly, no.
What model are you looking at? On the F series cars you can use eSys to delete option code 322 (comfort access), then write to VO and CODE FEM_BODY and HU_XXX. I have no experience of the newer G series cars though.

Euro Car Parts does a good DiskLok one in different sizes for a reasonable £10-12.

It's an F85. I've been told the G series have the new keys as standard.

I might have to investigate esys, thanks.

No-one has heard of the subsidised key replacement?

I have a pair of 'Cloak Mate' pouches from Amazon, they were about £7 I think. I didn't use them with my previous BMW's that had comfort access but with Audi's system, they work perfectly, even when stood right next to the car door with the key in pouch in pocket.

Not me anyhow. I've heard of a dealer charging full whack as often as they can though! I've bought 2 keys from BMW, E90 and F11. They were both pricey.
eSys will code the car fine, I'm in Hertfordshire if you want it doing.

Thank you for the generous offer. I'm in Beaconsfield occasionally so not sure how close that is to you.

I've bought a couple of faraday pouches and will see if comfort access is worth the security risks!

FWIW I rang BMW UK today and they haven't heard of a key replacement program either! I'll have to try and remember which of the forums I discovered that 'information'.
