Just booked for Le Mans this year and this time we're swapping from our usual campsite at Houx to Tetre Rouge. We're arriving on the Thursday. Can anyone tell me where the vehicle entrance is? I'm guessing it's off the D338/Route De Tours near the Stella Bar/Tetra Rouge Bar, just under the motorway bridge?

Many thanks

Yes, right next to the bridge, early in the week you might be able to get in the main entrance too, being France it all depends on who you get when you turn up

Within the circuit ? It’s the gate with the ageing white doors. Looks like a pedestrian entrance and they’ll be lots of pedestrians. Great fun! https://goo.gl/maps/pekCT2Nv2DxVaEjM9

Yes, I'd be looking to get there as early as you can, not just because of the pedestrians, but the campsite fills up

Thanks for the replies and tips. Any recommendations as to which end of the site to pitch up (if there’s still a choice by the time we get there).

Also, am I right in saying pitches are non marked and there are no beer/food vans etc on site? I guess the track is so close everyone just purchases there?

The site is open so you camp where there is space, but beware if the space looks empty and ideal think first, if it rains will it flood and what do the neighbours look like. Avoid area's near turning points on the track around the site, or area's up wind of bogs. There are three or four noisy groups we all know them and therefore give them space so beware and ask regulars where best to camp. However to be honest on TR by thursday space will be limited.

Pitches are marked, but not numbered, no beer or food vans, officially at least, there have been a group of Dutch selling beer from the back of a trailer some years, but not there last year I don't think.

Beer and food vans are just outside main campsite entrance (about 25m to the left) or if you're down the far end, near the fair / music stage there's loads to choose from. There's none on the actual site though.

But easy to get to supermarkets and buy your own booze/food. Although power connection is rather heath Robinson on the site a large number of people now days have fridges and therefore cold beer. Buying beer/food from the stalls is a very quick way of running through your money.

We normally go to Houx in a Golf R estate with electric, fridge, furniture, TV, bikes and all sorts. This year we’re going in a 911 so roughing it due to luggage space. The main concern is how to keep the beer cold...

I like your thinking! I’ve never stayed on Tetre Rouge campsite but a suggestion from me... As it’s a great location for the tram, you could jump on (no idea what the stops are called?!) go to the massive Carrefour Supermarket, grab a few bags of ice on Friday/Saturday/Sunday morning and be back pretty quick. A decent cooler box and ice supply will keep your beers cold for the weekend!

Well you will need to buy a cooler box as well. so it will be cheaper to speak to people next door and come to an arrangement to buy beer and share it with them if you can put it in their fridge. As always get to know your neighbours.

I’ve been reading that although the site doesnt have electric hook up, some people have managed to get electricity from somewhere on site. This might put a different spin on things if we can squeeze the camping fridge into the car. Can anyone shed any light on the exact situation on electricity on site?

The electricity situation is as above, make friends with your neighbours, there's an elaborate system of daisy chained cables across the site

The Electric situation is rather random but, as said, make friends with people around and you will i am sure get access to a socket if they have a spare, however it does rather too often have problems but usually gets sorted by the many "electricians" on site. If you look at the main power sockets usually near the toilets you will be in wonder that anything works.

Family village half way down the Mulsanne is your answer.

How the hell are they going to put that in a 911?, however probably cheaper than a good electric cool box

I’ve got a 3 way fridge already. My brother picked up his 911 yesterday. We now just need to see if it’ll fit.
