Hi All,

I have a mk6 Golf gti and have a starting issue wondering if you can help.

On occasions, either at the end of the day or start of the day i turn the car over and it wont fire. I turn it off, immediately restart it restart it, and it fires as it should. Every time it wont start, it always starts on the second try. The car runs as smooth as silk once its going.

Im guessing this is something starting to break down? Can you give me any solutions? Is this a common issue with these?

Thanks in advance,
Gary thumbup

When it won't start does the engine turn over and just not fire?
Just to clarify.

Just to clarify.
The engine spins over at the correct speed, just doesnt fire.
Then when i do it for the second time, it always fires.
It does this the same every time i have this issue.

Cheers.

Isnt Hotstart fix just for diesels?

I suspect it may be timing chain tensioner starting to fail.. Does that sound like a fair assessment?

Honestly? No.

This is one of those situations where paying for a proper diagnostic is going to be cheaper than guessing. Clattering on cold start is generally an early indicator of a chain issue but as already mentioned above there's so many things that could be wrong and cause a starting issue that also means there's an equal number of things that aren't causing it.

20 quid temperature sensor? Totally possible.
4 knackered fuel injectors at a grand? Also possible.
