How Many Tuscans Built and Remain ?
Discussion
:scratchchin: As title,
I'd be interested to know -approx-how many Tuscan race cars have been built ?
How many are still out there? not just current race cars ,but converted and track day cars ?
In fact , do any Original Rover engined racers exist still in race trim ? or were they all converted to AJP
Did Rover and AJP cars race on the same Grid ?
Whilst we're on the subject ,what happened to the (1st ?) Tuscan Challenge Car - the one that looked like a modified V8 S ? (got a picture of it - would scan it if i had a scanner).
should have asked JR at the factory this week but did'nt :boxedin:
Thanks in advance .

Approx 60 cars built,
about 20 distroyed,
crashed,
or otherwise buggered,
5/6 in overseas ownership/converted to GT's or other types of racers, that leaves about 34/35 cars here in the UK. Of those I reckon at least 10 have been converted to road cars
and 5 as track cars,
so I estimate that there are only abouy 20 original racers left, 8 of which raced a few weeks back at Castle Combe
so there are 14 or so lurking in the shadows,
I've got one,
so make that 13.
This is all guesswork and could be a total load of bollox

Thanks for the replies chaps.
Car 23 - ex Chris Stockton is now re-united with a works Challenge engine.
It's in the same ownership as Car 58 - ex TVR , which is also in full race spec
.
Alas , both are'nt raced at present , but are preserved in AJP Challenge engined spec , and are proving to be rather stimulating on track days
.
More questions ...
Were the AJP cars built specially or were they ex Rover engined Challenge cars ?
Did the factory build 60 (or whatever)cars years ago (and they've been rebuilding them ever since) or have New versions been built in latter years ?
Thanks.
Darren.

As far as I know they changed the spec between the rover engined cars and the AJP's, mine was new in 99 and you would have to make a few adjustments if you wanted to fit anything else then an AJP. I think the change was 96/97, but that needs checking as I'm not that sure it wasn't a bit earlier.

Here's a link to it

looking at the race results it seems to have dnf'd in the first round and not been out again yet ( 3 rounds do far this year)

Well, they have had quite a lot of trouble with the engine, but I think the most is sorted for the next race the next weekend. Haven't spoken to them recently but they finished one race at Kinnekulle a while ago (round 4). Look at www.sskracing.com/Resultatarkiv/2005/Tavling6/Nordic%20Supercar%20Race%201%20(Officiellt).html
Don't know if that rendered in any points though.
More pics can be found here http://rejsa.nu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21195
Information about the next race will be available in Swedish here www.sskracing.com (Falkenberg)
The series Nordic Supercar has it's own website too www.supercar.no
It is in Norwegian and not always up to date (no current score table at the moment).
By the way, where should they turn to get help with the ECU. I think they mentioned something about the ECU switching to some kind of "Safe mode" after a number of engine revs. Don't know if they still have that problem though.
If someone here would like to assist them I can pass on contact information if you like.
Best regards
Johan

The results are now updated. Bäcka Event actually scored 4 points. Look at www.supercar.no/?aid=116567 (M.Ostmark, Kolsva MS)
I'm looking forward to see how they will do this weekend in Falkenberg.
Johan
Edited to say: Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

There is one on Ebay! I am at Coombe at the moment. Just watched 5 boring Prancing Horses!
You can't say the prancing horses were boring surely. More the fact that there were only 5 on the grid & with 2 360 Challenge cars v. 3 355s, there couldn't be much of a race. Not the cars' fault. Most interesting bit was seeing how long the first 360 took to lap the 355s.
Thank goodness the 7 Tuscans got onto a much bigger grid, mixing with other sportscars & Radicals etc. A big grid, regardless of marque is always better than a tiny one.

Oh my...the 1st time I've been caught out with posting lag !
Saw your car at Coombe yesterday in the paddock. Noticed you'd had your name sign-written underneath the previous racing drivers of the car, i.e. (Racing Rod) Barrett & Jamie Campbell-Walker.
What's all that about then ?

Well, not exactly sign written....just sticky transfers...keeping the car's history for all to see...just a bit of fun.

I agree with here! However the 5 Ferraris had 2 races but we were treated to only 1 GT race. Surely as the public we deserve 3 GT races! I just thought it was double standards making the Tuscans with the Gt's!
The first Donkey Derby wasn't too bad because one of the 355s was clearly quicker than the one in front (and the other was keeping up) but it got a bit bit boring once he got past.
At least the second race was only 15 mins.
Numbers do make a difference, but not half as much as competitive racing. The Tuscans have a history of really good drivers and while the guys running this year are not about to jump into the GTs as people have in the past (Phil Keen and David Mason who were in the series last year to name but two of the most recent) they do show much better car control than in most series. Griff2Be's save at Camp earlier on this year was truly amazing from where I was. There's not many that go wide there and live to run another lap. And the only reason he got it that way was because he was looking to overtake some winged-wonder-of-a-Radical-looky-likey-type-thing.
Last year - with the series apparently in it's death-throes - the driving standard was far in excess of those BTCC hooligans like Jason Plato and other egos too huge to mention.
To drive a 250+bhp FWD muppet wagon requires a muppet with a baseball cap. To drive a 400+bhp RWD TVR requires a skilled driver. Many who've done the latter are now regular and renowned GT drivers. Most who've done the former are doing not a lot (unless is barging people off the road in ETCC).
PS: With the silencers on the Prancing Pony's sounded crap. We were thinking of starting up the TVR's and giving them some revs at Italy's best came past to see if we could drown them out.
