Migrant crisis part two
Discussion
Turkey has said (even if it needs to be verified) that the restrictions on Syrian migrant progress into Turkey and beyond have been lifted.
Turkey is showing a trickle of migrants moving along roads currently but C4 has just had an interview with Syrian refugees stating that if the borders are going to be open there will be 5 million on the hoof shortly, if Syria continues with its attacks in Idlib.
This is a potential collapse of the agreement with the EU (championed by Cameron at the time) which requested that Turkey to close the gates on the flood of migrants which triggered over a million people entering the EU.
Alongside Coronavirus this could all get a bit messy if serious numbers are let through.

Apologies if this has been raised before: couldn’t see a thread with the crappy search function.

Yup it appears Turkey has opened the border
Seems it’s kicking off on a few of the Greek islands with Greek civilians fighting Greek security forces
Meanwhile there are call for an urgent EU meeting and NATO to step in to close the border

We should help the SAA and Russia blow the s
t out of the terrorists in Idlib, then the Syrians can all go home and Erdogan can stick his blackmail up his arse.
The vast majority of the refugees have fled the Syrian regime so not at all sure how killing the few left fighting that regime will get everyone going home again.
t out of the terrorists in Idlib, then the Syrians can all go home and Erdogan can stick his blackmail up his arse. This illustrates really the problem with asylum laws. We all know by now that it results in permanent migration to the west, not a temporary refuge during a conflict, and there is very little appetite to take in the millions of refugees generated by such conflicts.
Eventually there will be a change and there will also be a change in the mood here if the thousands crossing the Channel illegally become tens of thousands.

That's not really true though, is it. Most are not fleeing "The Regime". If we stopped funding the "moderate" head choppy nutcases just because they oppose Assad, and the US got out of Syria's oil fields, we could let the country stabilize and even prosper. Then those fleeing war could return and the economic migration would end.Our current foreign policy is creating both types of migration and enabling Erdogan's blackmail. To no benefit to us.

It seems the Turks have launched an offensive claiming to have shot down two Syrian jets and destroyed over 100 tanks belonging to the Russian backed forces
The Turks are claiming that they are not intending to provoke the Russians
Will be interesting to see how this plays out !
Looking at the 2nd video in this link its hard to argue with those numbers (aerial footage, work safe)The Turks are claiming that they are not intending to provoke the Russians
Will be interesting to see how this plays out !

The Syrian army must of suffered a large loss of life during these airstrikes, hard to see Syria not reacting to this

How many of these desperate child refugees will Lilly Allen be personally taking taking in, I wonder?
So how will us leaving the EU have any affect on illegal immigration ? Lol

Are we still selling arms to Turkey?
Seems odd that Russia are selling them arms when it looks like they are using them against their allies, I have a feeling that at some point soon Turkey will kill some Russian troops and then Russia will kick off, they already have sent multiple warships to the area which are still on route.

Firstly they are not necessarily illegal immigrants. They may or may not have a right to enter. That will be determined later. If they have no right to asylum they will never get citizenship which means the EU country they enter can try to deport them. Even if they are not deported they would never be able to legally travel to the UK whether we where in the EU or not.
If they have the right to asylum this would normally take 2-3 years to determine. It would then take 5 years and a language test before they could legally enter the UK.
