Apple car play in connected drive app

I have been given a long term car hire which is a new BMW 320. The connected drive app shows this



Which suggests to me that the car has the Apple car play option. However I can’t activate it in the car and when I click more details I get a screen which appears to want to charge me for it

Am I right with my assumption above?

Pretty sure BMW are shysters & charge you for it! one of the few MFG'rs to charge you for something that is otherwise free in all other guises.

Yes they do but the app is suggesting it has been paid for because it says the subscription is active

OK figured it out and managed to activate it. It only displays on half the screen though where it looks like it should fill the whole screen. Is that another setting somewhere?

What system do you have? On Pro it fills 2/3 or so, not full screen like the in-built map does.

Just the basic Idrive 7 version in a 2020 320 MSport

Have you got split screen selected ?

Yes if you don’t select split screen the car play screen stays the same side and the other side just displays the text “Craig’s IPhone”. I assume there is a higher spec version of the system which is whole screen as an option?

You can get the full screen CarPlay coded via USB or OBD. Not really worth it on a hire car admittedly.

I’m considering a third party coding to get CarPlay added to mine as the BMW charges are ridiculous.

I just messed around with the settings in the end and have the album art showing where the compass is in the photo above and the car play on the left as shown
