Does anyone on here happen to have a Hudl 2 and Netflix?

A long shot I know because this is an old tablet now...

I'm wanting to know if it is possible to download stuff on Netflix then watch it on a caravan TV via HDMI out without any need for WiFi.

Doesn't seem so, HUDL2 is running Android 4.4,2 and latest app version of Netflix available to it but no download option in the GUI of the App itself sorry

I'll check tomorrow as my Son uses my Mrs' old Hudl 2 and I have a mini HDMI to HDMI cable for it upstairs - I've definitely done it in the past with iPlayer so I don't imagine Netflix will be any different as it essentially mirrors the screen, famous last words...

Captain Answer, the Hudl 2 received the Android 5.0 update before Tesco pulled the plug on it - if you download Nova Launcher on to it from the app store to replace the Tesco launcher, then disable all the Tesco crap in Settings>Apps it speeds it up no end. It's still fairly capable for video streaming apps/browsing/basic games and has a cracking screen, certainly far better screen/performance than the 7 & 8" Amazon tablets.

Ah fair enough thanks for the tip, I replaced mine with a Fire 10 tablet some time back and just stuck it in the bottom of the wardrobe. I might try updating it later and see how it goes

Thanks for trying this for me guys smile . I specifically want a tablet to do this particular thing, so I don't want to buy a Hudl 2 only to find it doesn't work....

Does it specifically need to be Netflix? You can download from Prime Video

Yes, it's Netflix I'm specifically interested in watching offline in a caravan via HDMI.

All good Comstock party

I downloaded an episode of Peppa Pig, turned off the wifi on the Hudl 2, went in to Setting>HDMI and adjusted Modes to suit the screen you're connecting to (1920 x 1080/50hz in my case) and set Scale modes to 'Full' so that it fills the screen properly as it's letterboxed otherwise (I remember it took me ages to figure that out a few years ago - no issues asides from that)

I'd also recommend buying a couple of micro HDMI to HDMI cables as the micro HDMI end is nowhere near as robust as standard HDMI cables are - the one we have went faulty within weeks although still works with a bit of footering about with it - although there was reports it was an issue with the Hudl 2 itself https://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/374451-hdmi-ou... (ours is definitely the cable as this is the third Hudl 2 I've tried it on)

Edit - stick a micro SD card in the Hudl then go in to settings on the Netflix app (it's under More at the bottom of the page) and you can choose between internal storage and micro SD, so you'll be able to download plenty of content on to a decent sized card.

Super duper. Many thanks.

Now I can go looking for a second hand Hudl 2 with more confidence it will work.

My Hudl 2 died years ago.
They had a fault where they just wouldn't boot that was widespread.
Shame as it was a brilliant tablet.

I had ( still have) a Hudl 1, but that was a wee bit under powered and won't run the latest version of Netflix. The Hudl 2 tempted me at the time, but I decided to hold on for the Hudl 3....which of course never came frown

I think Tesco subsidised the Hudl and were making a loss on it, presumably they couldn't justify the continued expense as trading got tougher. I would buy a new Hudl in a heartbeat if they brought one out.

Tried sticking Nova on mine, signed up for beta testing yesterday but hasn't updated itself yet... downloading the APK won't run but may sort itself eventually, when I put my Pixel into beta testing mode it took a few days to get the beta version onto it

Comstock .... if you want mine you can have it for a donation to RNLI?? I will wipe it and post it to you to mess about with if you want it, I have no use for it and its in very good condition

Thanks, I'm very interested in that.

Let me do some research on what the going second hand rate is and hence what a fair donation would be. I'll get back to you, but won't be today or tomorrow.
