Girlfriend wants a Scrambler 800 for commuting mainly. Couple of questions...

- Anyone had one? Opinions?

- Ducati servicing. Is it horrifically expensive?

- anything else to consider - small, light, fun?
She's had a 675 Street previously and didn't like the turning circle. Tempted to get her a monkey bike because I secretly want one biggrin

Ta'.

I bought Mrs215 one a couple of christmases ago.
She sold it after less than six months.

They are ridiculously small and light (perfect chick bike) but fairly gutless and get battered by the wind.

Easy enough to service, not a lot to go wrong, but too expensive for what they are.

I've had an 800 Scrambler since 2015. It's a great bike; simple, light and characterful with just enough power to be fun. However, the finish is indifferent and the (standard) suspension harsh verging on appalling.

Basically it's a softly-tuned old-school Monster in a vintage frock, so compared to the 675 Striple it will seem sluggish and a bit crude, especially at low speed.

Swapping the handlebars for something lower and maybe narrower is good for comfort and essential for commuting. If you're feeling extravagant have Maxton sort the suspension too, it'll make all the difference.

Oh, and servicing costs aren't all that bad. Certainly no worse than the KTM I had previously.

As for alternatives, the Husqevarna Vitpilen 701 has about the same power, in a lighter, better-looking, more modern chassis.

70-odd hp V-twin in a 200kg bike gutless?

Feels fast enough, especially for commuting. I like mine. Servicing at the main dealer is a bit costly (belts at 14k) but doesn't matter too much.
Love it for muddy roads too
