This is a shame, I was really looking forward to the start of the season but I guess we shouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't count on it being the only cancelation either. Really hope this whole virus thing is sorted by the summer as I've got tickets to Mugello this year.

Tel me about it, we're scheduled to be at COTA in early April. Fingers crossed!

Gutted...however, Moto3 and Moto2 are usually pretty bloody good too.

WSBK opening round was quite epic, so was hoping for a full GP schedule too really cement the fact racing season is back.

Seems to be the Thai government postponing it, no word from Dorna so guess they haven't worked out how to react yet.

I hope the calendar is changed too much, like many I've got tickets, booked holidays and accommodation. Scary times though. frown

I’m not sure how to react to this. Part of me thinks it’s a sensible approach to try to slow any chance of a pandemic, then the other part of me thinks we’ve been here before with the end of the world panic. HIV / AIDS, SARS, swine flu (I caught that) were all badged similarly and haven’t wiped us out. I often wonder if sometimes were better letting it spread as it increases the chances of us becoming immune. I’m not a doctor though, so could be talking bks (see below)

There are conspiracy theories like this flying round on my Facebook alongside the Dean Koontz / back of a Dettol bottle instructions and it scares me how much we’re dumbing down. Maybe a pandemic is what’s needed to thin the population.

If you look at the Marquez thing critically, it’s irrelevant. The issue is Italy, where some riders live, especially Northern Italy, where one in particular lives. More likely though is that, there are teams based there and the tyre manufacturer. It’s Qatar that has imposed travel restrictions on those who have been to Italy within the past fortnight.

This isn’t aimed at you personally.

It doesn't really matter what dorna want , if the local government decide they don't want people flying in then that's that .

Fingers crossed your holidays aren't effected .

Obviously i'm not saying honda/marquez have had the race cancelled and corona is the perfect alibi , but for him and iannone it's happened at a ideal time .

Be interesting if they bin the non europe rounds and hope to start the season in europe but i guess it all depends how far the corona virus spreads in the next few months .

Yeah, was the choice of postponement rather than cancellation that got me as that would need Dorna involved. Listening to the Carmelo Ezpeleta interview about the subject it sounds like Dorna were in contact with the Thai government and have agreed to try to reschedule. Gotta be hard for Dorna, can't do anything more than attempt to run all the races they can this year.

Thanks for your good wishes; I feel sorry for everyone who was hoping to watch at both Qatar and Buriram and I hope no more races are affected and we all get to enjoy our trips and hols this year, but when people are dying it feels wrong to complain much.

Strange that the WSBK round at Phillips Island still went ahead & next round in 2 weeks still being advertised.

Qatar is still going ahead for Moto2 and Moto3, it's only the MotoGP that's cancelled.

Why just MotoGP cancelled?

Maybe one of the top riders has tested positive and they don't want to make it publicly known and they don't want to increase possibility of further spread amongst the paddock. Or team personnel will be coming from locations in Italy where there is an outbreak and Qatar has said no.
