4.5 Brakes - skimming

Am off to LE Mans on Thursday am.
Took the cerb out for a blast last night.
Got some shudder from front brakes. The discs and pads are in visually good condition so I guess there is some slight warping. Anyone know if they can be skimmed, whether this can be done local to me (Surrey), can be done on the car and BEFORE Thursday (ie I think Racing Green do it but is it a 1/2 hr job so can squeeze in)!?
Or do I somehow get new front discs and fit with pads Monday night!

Martin at Racing Green does it.
Don't know if they could do it before Thursday though!

Replace them...Its the only way to eliminate the judder!

I replaced all 4 on my last 4.5 last yr so know the replacement cost.
What does the skim cost? Cant be that much eg 1 hrs labour plus.....?

Someone on another thread had some brake judder which turned out to be the two halves of the ventilated disc separating from each other. I guess that could spoil your day if the disc failed completely.

Skimming the disks is only a short term solution, the best way is to get new disks.

If you get stuck I will have a word with the guys at work, they will do them.

So options :-
1. Skim discs
2. Grind discs
3. Brake upgrade £900 is for parts from Joospeed (but isnt currently trading) - so guesss a non option!
4. Original fitment replacements = about same cost as joospeed option. Very pricey.
5. Later Tuscan S drilled brakes. Discs £108. So much cheaper. Mixed views on these eg cracking (but I think this is if loads of track days!).
Aggghhh - last minute pre Le Mans panic!

Guildford Auto Services will grind each disc for £15 per disc!
But that means taking discs off tonight, getting my wife to sort them on Tuesday and then me refit on Wed night (am in Scotland tomorrow). Cuts the timing to fine for my liking.
I await a call from Racing Green.

Racing Green cant skim 4.5 brakes.
So it looks like I am going for the later Tuscan S style ones and fit them myself tonight!
Will need to go for a nice bedding in drive tonight!

New discs fitted. Shame I was in a hurry or I could have gone for some Joolz style upgraded ones. Oh well. At least the car now doesnt shudder under braking. If I can wear the brakes out on the Le MAns trip then maybe I will go for an upgrade.

Yes they are straight swap on the 4.5 calipers and hubs. The later cerbs all came fitted with them. BUT only becuase they are cheaper. They arent bad discs they just arent as good as originals or upgrades - but on the road you wont notice. On the track the originals (and in particular upgrades)will resist cracking and wear better.
I am keeping the old bells and discs. I am not convinced the old discs are fit for anything except the bin.
