Also note if you're going to park, many boroughs now have a diesel surcharge on top of the standard parking, Islington add £3/h so it could cost you £8/h to park, parking restrictions are also in on weekends.
So do Westminster. I was tempted to leave the van with its engine running whilst parked just to get my money's worth.

So you're penalised for taking the vehicle inside the zone, then penalised more for not using it, that must really help with the pollution statistics, just keep moving! shovelheadrob said:

As a rule of thumb if your vehicle meets the standard below it should be ULEZ compliant, but always worth using the check above if you aren't sure!
Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)
Euro 4 for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles
Euro 6 for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles
The diesel parking surcharge only applies to pre 2015 cars in Westminster, but in Islington it is all diesels!

I would imagine you are being encouraged not to take a diesel into the ULEZ, and then to think carefully about your engine choice when purchasing the next one. Short-term it will feel like an unfair punishment but if enough are 'nudged' into a cleaner car then everyone will benefit from cleaner air.
apart from those on low incomes who can't afford to change (having changed already thanks the government advising them to change to electric in the name of the environment - but they're just poor so f
