Snetterton yesterday
Discussion
Had a great day up at Snetterton to watch our resident Mr Paul racing-pixie-shoes Cundy compete in the AMOC YOKO MESC race (quite a mouthful isn't it).
Despite a problem with a reconditioned turbo (which eventually made Paul pull out of the endurance race), the car seemed to be competing well.
Paul unfortunatly also, we suspect, suffered a broken engine mount, which meant that he couldn't change gear under braking, which given Snetterton put him at a distinct disadvantage.
Still, qualifying saw Paul in the middle of the pack of the endurance cars so there is promise there.
I also got to see yet more mods of Paul's car. Latest additions are
New wheels
These are great, massivly lighter than the stock items, and really look very nice. Their design means that they would be prone to kerbing for a road car as they stick out further than the Yoko tyre he had on, but for the price, if you want a new set of wheels, they are probably the best solution.

Paul had also put his CF wing mirrors on, saves 5kg over the stock items, and according to Paul, beacuse they have convex glass in them, you can see more with them!

I'll leave you to make your own mind up what mod Paul is attempting here :D

There was some other great action on the track. This particular Elise totally missed the Russell bend braking point, and did a serious amount of damage to his front end by going down the inside

It was quite a corner for braking action!

The mirrors were straight out of the Demon Tweeks cataloque. Part number GP1-CR for right and L for left. Make sure you get the convex glass ones. I reckon they give a better view than the standard ones.
The seat is an Sparco Pro 2000, part number 857F. Its the tightest seat I could find and is not suitable for road use, its a real climb in and out. Its bolted straight onto the chassis rails via some alloy plates. You could fit it to the sliding rails, you'd need to spend a while sorting the connecting plates but it would raise it too high for me to sit in the car. With this seat my head is just below the roof and the back edge of the seat is literally on the floor.
Having said that it realy holds you tight and you get much more feedback and sense of what the car's doing.

Paul, do your wing mirrors now stay firmly in place, or do they drift out and down as some of us have found with the stock items?
...and how much were they fully fitted?
thanks, M
Take about 2 hours to fit, its quite tricky getting the old ones off, you need to remove the whole door trim to get to the nuts and bolts that hold the flat alloy plate on. Once fitted they are tightened with an imperial allen key from the inside. Once tight they don't move.
