Looking at purchasing a low entry jack, just basic mechanics won't be used a huge amount, cleaning wheels, coil overs etc, budget around £120

Any recommendations.

I've had one of these for 6 years, a bit heavy but stable and easily goes under a lowered vx220 but has enough lift to get the wheels off my Touareg.

There's an Arcan one from Costco about the same price which also gets a good write up.

Got a Costco one for Christmas, a bit heavy duty, double pump low entry, but weights 30 odd kilos, so a bit more than light use, very good jack though.

I've just bought an SGS 3 ton Trolly Jack direct.
£69.99 free delivery. It arrived 20 hours later.
I'm very impressed with it, very professional looking thing. Can jack it up whilst standing.
I emailed them about an extra on Sunday , they rang me first thing Monday morning.
Really good service.
All the reviews are very good. Downside is it weighs 30 + kilos but it is a big thing.
Lifts both wheels of my A7 straight off the ground with ease.
I've struggled for years with a smaller one.

Not that happy with my 2.5T SGS one. My other machine mart one is tougher and better. It has a flimsy handle that latches together and the handle that fits into the twist stock , has so much slop in it , it seems to move too much before it actually takes the slack up, to jack the car. After reading the reviews, I was hoping for something a lot better, but been disappointed so far .

Get in touch with them, see what they say?
They were very helpful with me.
I didn't bother with Machine Mart when I read reviews of their brand of Jacks failing very prematurely, going down in some cases.
Incidentally my £69 purchase is really good quality, just a tad heavy.

I have both the SGS and Costco/Arcan 3T low entry jacks.
Both comparable in terms of size, weight and build.

The SGS seems slightly nicer but there's really very little in it.
Both used for working on cars, engines, gearboxes etc.

I have an 1800kg aluminum Arcan one, much be 5 years old now easy, bought off ebay.

The quality isn't the best in the world and it was missing a circlip on arrival, however equally it is more than good enough, nice to use low entry quick lift jack with decent sized wheels which hasn't missed a beat. Expect the steel one is as good, and cheaper if you dont need to able able to get it into the back of a car.

I initially had one of the lightweight aluminium 2 Tonne but it felt very flimsy, so replaced with with a steel Clarke low entry jack which is much more solid, It is about 7 years old now and i had to replace the piston seals in it last year as they had started weeping. Overall very impressed

Slightly surprised by that, some of the smaller 1000-1200kg ali ones can be a bit lighter weight, but my 1800kg arcan unit is not what I would call flimsy, its really pretty solid.

Our unit motorclub had a small lighter one for trackdays, and it got a beating but was fine. We did have to remove and threadlock all the bolts, but after that, no real issues, got 2-3 years hammering which given its not what its designed for was good.

However if you dont need to get it off the ground, or are using it a lot, a steel one is the obvious choice.
