I Fear I’ve Gone Quite Mad - Evo V

On Saturday, I’m due to catch the 06:31 from my local station and make a four hour journey North to collect an Evo V. 64k miles, heavily modified, and seemingly in immaculate condition.

Car is to live in the garage and only come out at weekends, but as a serial PCP’er I’m a little nervous as well as extremely excited...!

Will breakdown companies touch a modified car? (500bhp). Should I invest in a dehumidifier for our garage (double)? Anything else I should invest in/consider investing in for my new toy?

Route home takes me near the Lake Distruct, which I’ve never been to, so would be rude not to pass through. Any recommended driving routes?

Will be taking it extremely steady - had quick cars before (Impreza STI, Type R etc) but not one that is quite so old or with quite so much power....

Recovery companies will cover a modified car but depending on who comes out to you if needed they may be reluctant to do anything other than recover you to a garage.

For the Lake District I would get off the M6 (if that's the way you're going) at Penrith and drive across to Ullswater then down towards Bowness.

Turn right before you get to Bowness towards Ambleside then left to Clappergate and left onto the B5286 down the west side of Windermere.

Get some food in Hawkshead then B5285 to the ferry.

Once off the ferry take the B5284 over to the A591 and onto the M6.

Or turn towards Graythwaite from Hawkshead and down around the base of Windermere to Newby Bridge then A590 back to the A591 and M6.

You've not gone mad you're just getting yourself a great set of wheels, if you don't have one already get yourself the professional Halfords socket set as they'll be times when you'll need to tinker with the car & you'll pretty much have everything you need.

Dehumidifier is a good idea. Personally I have found that I dont need mine on all the time but in the winter when temperatures fluctuate and its damp outside it's good to blast it on for a day or 2 every now and the to get everything nice and dry and ward off the worst of any condensation you get.
Some people run theirs all year round but it depends on how damp your garage is, what sort of heating it has and how precious your car is!

Although garaging a car keeps it out of the rain, very often a garaged car can 'sweat' because there is no breeze to blow moisture away - for ths reason a dehumidifier would be an excellent investment, also when the weather permits you should try to put the car on the driveway for the day with open windows/doors/boot to allow it to properly 'air out'.
Whilst doing this, leave the garage doors open and the dehumidifier plugged in and working.

I second the previous comments about buying some hand-tools

Re the Peak District, Woodhead and Snake Pass are fun roads for the drive home.

Will you not just be helping global dry out by trying to dry out the worlds atmosphere by having the dehumidifier on with the garage door open.
Also burning more electricity as well leading to global warming

Ok, just as good as the Lakes if you avoid the busy bits.

Snake and Woodhead IMO just too busy especially Woodhead as it takes all the HGV traffic.
Snake is good if you get a free run otherwise it's a bugger

A few roads which I used to drive when living in Sheffield:

B6001 Hathersage to Grindleford then have a break at the Grindleford Station Café

Ringinglow Rd from Sheffield end to the A625 at Hathersage Booths

A621 Owler Bar to Baslow just for the first set of bends

A625 from Fox House down to Calver
