Speeding fine penalty less severe than expected

Friend was flashed at 49 in a 30.
He seemed sure he’d get 3 points and a small fine but I looked it up and expected him to get 6 and an income related penalty as it seemed to be a “band B” offence.
He was right - 3 points £100 fine.
So how fast do you have to go to get into proper trouble?

Yep. 5 years ago I got caught at 53 in a 30 at midnight, slowing down going into the 30 from a NSL but I didn't slow down enough or in time.
Stopped by an unmarked Audi A6.
I got 6 points and a £1k + court costs fine.
Still to this day I believe that if I had been driving a different car I would not have been stopped. I did slow down to 30, but after a couple of hundred yards as opposed to before the 30 limit sign so it was a fair cop so to speak but still, was pretty annoying.

I think at 53 in a 30 it wouldn’t make blind bit of difference what you were drivingStopped by an unmarked Audi A6.

53 in a 30 is, as I said, a fair cop. The officer who stopped me was nice enough about it, the reason I've always wondered if the outcome would have been different if I had been driving a different car was because he made comment about the car a few times when he had me sat in the back of his patrol car.

We've all done it - Slowed down at the sign or just after it.53 in a 30 is, as I said, a fair cop. TBH though, I think entering a 30mph at over 50mph would have got the same result, regardless of the car you were driving.
The officer may have had a chip on his shoulder about you driving a 911, but had you been driving an old, battered Corsa, or any car in between (or above), I doubt it would have made any difference.
