Royal Mail VAT request by text

I am fairly sure this is a scam, but

My wife has received a text message from a 5 digit number claiming to be the Royal Mail. It states they are with holding a parcel due to a VAT charge of £1.65. my wife does order many bits from China for crafting, but never above £15 value. Typically, she can't remember precisely what she has ordered and what has not arrived.

The text message contains a link to a site which looks scammy. ( No royal mail logos etc.)

Searched the web and haven't found anything relating to this, scam or otherwise.

Perhaps this message is more an alert to others rather than a question.......


Edit - definitely a scam the web link is scattered with spelling mistakes.

If it was really Royal Mail there'd be import duty and a handling fee as well.

On the rare occasions this has happened to me I've had a letter, and collected from the sorting office.

Normally we deliver one of those grey cards saying how much you owe and how to pay .

Never heard about us texting people.

Where would Royal Mail get a mobile number from?

when I used to buy silver dollars from abroad always had letter/postcard telling me import tax handling fee etc never a text
