First it was VW, now BMW have felt the need to redesign the roundel logo, which debuts on the new i4.

No idea why it needed to change, but it doesn’t look better to me!

Can't say I really like it. The Blue/white bit looks like it should be a casino chip, it has a plasticky look to it.

No one will really notice anyway, as their attention will be grabbed entirely by the rest of the gopping front end - be it ratty (the i4), snotty-nosed toddler (G20 3) or hair-lip (LCI G11)

Looks rubbish, already moaned about it on the GG thread. cry

Justification is total bks:

Jens Thiemer said:
“BMW becomes a relationship brand. The new communication logo radiates openness and clarity,” explains Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice President Customer & Brand BMW. “With this new transparent variant, we want to invite our customers more than ever to become part of the BMW world. In addition, our new brand design is geared to the challenges and opportunities of Digitization for brands. With visual restraint and graphic We are equipping ourselves flexibly for the wide variety of contact points in communication at which BMW will show its presence online and offline in the future. The additional communication logo symbolizes the significance and relevance of the brand for mobility and driving pleasure in the future.”
Oh do fk off. rolleyes

As an aside, I don't see how this is going to work on a white car. Also what about signs at the dealer? Surely it can't be mounted on a white background (as they have at the moment). It just doesn't make sense to me...but I'm not into 'marketing'.

Looks like a cake decoration made from marzipan. Their design department appears to have been taken over by talentless clowns.

I’m not sure it’s just the design dept. Call me old fashioned but in the olden days we had 3, 5, 7. Plus the odd other model like a 6 or Z1. The badge on the back was the engine size. They were all rwd, then 4wd.

Now we have fwd. 2 series Gran Tourer, X1. Note “Gran” Tourer not “Grand”. I’m just glad I stopped working for a BMW dealer 16 years ago.

Looks like we don't have to worry, as BMW have confirmed the cars themselves are sticking with the existing logo:

Does make you wonder why they bothered, but I guess muh, marketing.

Agreed; what a load of twaddle.

I think the new logo looks bobbins. Not sure it was really something that needed fiddling with. Looks / sounds like a bit of job creation.

Indeed.

I've been nipping into the local Audi dealership of late to collect some parts for a repair job, and it struck me how attractive Audis are now compared to BMW's. Just really nice conservative designs with smart detailing.

The mega Sytners near me is just a circus now, walking past the horror show to get to the parts dept. That 1 Series is just abysmal.
