If I parked in a parking space designated for disabled drivers, I’d quite rightly be fined.

So why is it ICE drivers can - and do - park in charging bays with no fear of a fine?

Its because the charging cable is long enough to reach to the next bay

The ev bays are large normaly. Park behind it and charge. When they ask you to move say you can’t as you have to charge and will be finished in 1/2 hour.

Point out that your model X has 4wd and enough torque to pull a house, and that you have a tow rope.

Is the space labelled and sign posted for EV drivers only?

On a related note, MK Council put a load of bays in for EVs and labelled and signed them as such. What they forgot to do was say that they had to be on charge for use of them, so several people were issued tickets for parking without charging their EVs and all won on appeal as the signing didn't stipulate that you had to be charging your EV. They have since changed the signage hehe

Assumption.

Until the facts are established we can only assume.

Depending where it is it might be worth reporting it. Some easy money for the owner of the site potentially.

It seems the answer is. They have no fear of a fine, because they didn't realise they could get one. Until they do. hehe

I see this happening all over the place. In Aberdeen today two charging bays occupied by a diesel Mondeo and a petrol TT.

Hopefully this will be clamped down on soon.

Question is, do you think it's just as bad or worse if it's an EV parked in the bay and the owner has not even made a pretence of charging bu not even plugging the car in ? And yes I have seen this a few times now.

Worse, as they really should know better.

They are there for EV charging, not EV parking. EV's don't need special parking privileges obviously

Handy thing (probably not for EV drivers though) about the MK ones is the restriction finishes at something like 6pm, so after that they're just a normal parking space that non EV drivers seem to avoid as they don't read the sign. Leaves it free for me!

Near me there's a carpark with several EV charge spaces. I've never ever seen a car parked there being charged. I wonder if it's because you aren't allowed to stay and charge for more than 30 minutes, when it's an all day carpark for everyone else?

I imagine unless there is a local bylaw in place if it is a roadside parking space or in the case of private carparks specific signage in place restricting use to EV charging only with a threat of PCN then EV charge parking spaces are unenforceable, much like parent and child spaces are generally unenforceable.

Here in belgium you get fined. It is, however, allowed to stand in an EV space with an EV without having it charged. Which is, admittedly just as bad imho.

Funny, just yesterday I went to a big shopping mall who have 4 spaces at the door, completely painted green with the markings for EV parking.
... but no chargers.

I think they still had to install them but I saw no preparations for it.

Anyway, had nice parking spot up front in a very busy car park.

I'm waiting for someone to ask where are all the charging bays for disabled drivers?

This is fast becoming the new parking in a disabled / parent and child spaces, without a blue badge or without a child.

What people have to come to understand is that charging bays are NOT parking bays. You don't park at a petrol pump and sod off shopping for 4 hours.

The fact that they're in car parks is obviously confusing a lot of very, very stupid and selfish people. Including EV drivers themselves who ought to know better.

The world is on the whole full of reasonable, considerate people, but there are just enough selfish, ignorant wkers to spoil it for the rest of us.
