warm family medium hatch/estate £10k

I currently drive an 2011 mk8 civic Si 1.8 petrol which was supposed to be for the wife to have as a family car, but she now has a mazda 2 as a (less parking scraped) town car.

So I need to drive the family moving-mobile for just 5k miles a year. Most of my driving is, in reality, 90% town commuting over speedbumps, rat-runs up steep welsh hills and back streets, with a bit of dual carriage way. And a half dozen fully packed trips away each year.

My civic is superb for reliability as we know and ive been spoiled by it, so I need something with not too much potential bills. The civic ride is pretty crashy, the handling lacks much feel and the engine lacks torque, also the boot is not quite big enough for 2 growing kids stuff.

So I have around £10k for something new. I think I need a turbo petrol, either a small estate like a focus/leon or a large hatchback like a Mondeo or Octavia. I really wanted an early Mk3 focus ST estate, but I realised it will be too crashy day to day over speed bumps and I wont really get to use all the power and handling very often, maybe a spirited drive up to the black mountains every other month IF im lucky.

So im thinking of a seat leon st 1.4tsi possibly FR if nott too harsh (is this tsi reliable? Can I remap a 1.4 SE to have a comfy more powerful ride?) whats the handing like on these? Id like to have some fun/feedback when I get a chance to put the pedal down.
Or a mk3.5 focus estate 1.5t titanium but they are pretty rare, sooo many 1.0 eco boost which would be too slow.

A late mk4.5 mondeo 2.0t titanium is a favourite, but I worry it might be a tad too big for nipping through town. But great for family outings.

I also like the idea of an late mk2 Octavia vrs or mk3 1.4 tsi hatch/estate, but again is the engine more/less reliable than the ecoboost and will the handling and ride be worse than the fords?

Decisions decisions… any other ideas im missing?

thanks ZR i always appreciate your effort and opinion. i think the mondeo 2.0t is a good compromise all rounder and a good real life, semi comfy and good handling option.

I tend to swap between German VAG and Japanese makes, but family inherited fords have been the welcome exception to the rule.

I have always discounted Vauxhalls, but i am, slowly, coming around to their kind of "white good" appeal. However I cant get over my french prejudice for the Peugeot, unless it was a 205 gti lol.
