Does anyone know if the new electric Citroen Ami quadricycle can be purchased outright?

The car cannot be bought via the French Citroen dealer network (as I confirmed the other day) and is only available to buy on-line via Darty or Fnac Consumer retail outlets in France.

Despite press articles referring to the fact the car will cost approx. €6000 to buy outright, the retailers seem to suggest it’s only available via finance or monthly/daily subscription.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I’ve contacted Citroen UK customer services who are unable to offer any real assistance.

Jason.

Not sure as to your question, not even sure it’ll be available in the U.K. due to crash test rules (it’s classed as a French quadracycle) , you do know it has a top speed of 28 mph?

Yup. I’m aware of its limitations etc and know that it can’t be purchased in the UK. If you can buy it outright on the continent it would need to be a personal import to the UK.

My question is simply can you buy it outright?

I’ve now had conflicting statements from customer services at both fnac and Darty. Guess I’ll have to wait until 30 Mar when it’s officially on sale to see what options are actually on their websites.

I live in France and have registered for updates.

As I understand it, orders will only open at the end of the month. FNAC/Darty will be displaying cars but all ordering will be done on line for delivery to your home or an agreed handover point. The website seems to imply that certain dealers may handle sales, perhaps as a means of covering gaps in geographical coverage.

The website only shows short term and long term rental at the moment, as you probably already know, up to 4 years.

I can't justify 8,000 euros for a second hand second car to save a few 10s of euros a month on the subset of my journeys that it could be used for. Nor can I justify 30,000 to 50,000 euros to buy an electric car that could, with several compromises, do all that I need my main car to do. But 6,000 euros to purchase a brand new vehicle is closer to being justifiable. By comparison the Aixam electric quadricycle starts at about 15,000 euros.

Me too - I would really like to get hold of one of these smile ... I have emailed the Citroen dealership in Cherbourg to see if they can help... I assume it'll be treated as a personal import by the UK but what about VAT - will that be France or UK (hopefully not both)? and having never imported anything like this - would registration be straightforward?

The question of VAT is an interesting one. I checked direct with HMRC and because the power output is less than 7KW, there’s no requirement to inform them when this electric quad is imported. Duty will be paid in the country of origin (France in this this instance) and there will be no VAT to pay, unlike importing a new car (i.e. one that’s less than 6 months old with less than 6000 miles) where VAT would be due.

Just need to be able to buy one outright and trailer it over to Blighty smile

Great news about the VAT... Getting hold of one is the big hurdle... roll on 30 March to find out... smile

I’ve been checking the fnac and Darty websites but I can’t seem to see the Ami being advertised.

Academic at this point since no one could collect at the point of sale.

Has anyone else heard any updates about the availability of this funky chariot?

Has anyone bought a Citroen Ami and brought it back to the UK?

If so, what was the process please.
