Evening all,

Looking for advice. I have an 07 3 series. 111700 on the clock. Had it for 6 yea and generally no issues apart from timing chain replacement about 4 years ago.

Recently it’s started juddering like crazy. The whole car vibrates. Started initially when idle. Now does it constantly.

Local indy garage (non specialists) replaced coils and plugs, but issues still there. Looking for any advice on what it could be and next course of action. I’d rather not replace yet. But don’t want this to become a bit of a money pit either considering car isn’t worth much.

Also any recommendations on garages in Nottingham would be awesome.

Thanks!

If it was, would it judder in all conditions (eg idle, clutch pressed, depressed, accelerating) etc? As mine currently does smile

When mine went it only juddered as you pulled away letting the cluch out.

Scan it.

Otherwise you are playing a guessing game and will be throwing parts at it.

It would help if you put what engine and gearbox you have?

Also, be specific.
Put your vin in an online vin decoder and tell us the engine, could be the N43 if an 07 and these have lots of issues with early injectors and coil packs.
But depends on build date.

They scanned it. Misfire on coil 1. Swapped them round to confirm and replaced. 3 days later I had the same issues, where they scanned and identified misfire on coil 2. At that point I replaced them all.

Hi.

It’s the 320i SE, so 2 litre petrol. Manual gearbox.

Ran a vin decoder - it’s coming up as an N46 engine.

Unsure of build date but car first registered in March 07, so guessing early 2007?

N46 doesn't suffer as badly as N43 for coils and injectors.

When were the spark plugs last changed?

Could be split hose, can you hear any air from hoses in engine bay?

CCV can get bunged up on these and cause issues.

Eccentric shaft sensor can fail. Usually feels low powered from low revs, almost like it bogs down.

VVT, the valvetronic motor can fail and cause this issue too.

You do really need to scan the car, will probably tell you straight away what it is.

Search all the above for info and ideas on how to test though.
