Am looking at moving into the 21st century and buying a new handheld VHF for the boat.

Any advice on their recent acquisitions from the yachties on here?

I bought the Standard Horizon HX300E and haven't used the fixed radio since then.

Icom, Cobra etc are the usual suspects.

A couple of cheap Baofeng UV9Rs make good back-ups.

If its something your life might depend on, then get something good. Icom would be my recommendation.

I have a Icom MC-M91D.
Sold the boat 3 years ago. This was the back up radio that I never used but has been out the box and charged ready for use.
Currently boxed up with all the accessories in case I bought another boat.
I wont be anytime soon. If this works for you PM me an offer.
I did register it.

Thank you for the responses everybody. Looks like we will go for a base model: Icom IC-M25.

Zoomy, will pass on your offer as I like to have the benefit of a warranty.
