Tyres cracked - only 2 years old
Discussion
Just put my non PH Skoda Yeti 1.2tsi(feel the power) through the MOT.
Advisory for rear tyres of:
Nearside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
Offside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
Sure enough they are cracking round the edges, but the tyres are only 2 years old to the day and have covered less than 10K.
They are Avons. No idea what has caused this, the car mainly sits in the shade and does about 4 miles a day on a commute (I do 5K a year).
They are inflated correctly and Im not some avid detailer chucking loads of chemicals at it.
I cant think what has caused this - any thoughts? Im almost tempted to contact Avon, but I suspect they wont be interested?

Update:
I emailed Avon on Friday and they replied a few hours later and explained what the claims procedure was. Good so far. I sent them some images and today they have replied:
"Thank you for sending the pictures of your tyres into us. We have reviewed the pictures and can confirm that we will accept a claim received through the returns process as detailed in our previous communication. You will need to inform your original tyre dealer that you are raising a claim and then have your tyres exchanged with your local supplier."
Not sure about the original tyre dealer part, they were put on the car before I collected it from Eden Vauxhall in Oxford, so I guess Ill have to speak to them. Fortunately I work 50 yards from a fairly friendly tyre dealer, Im hoping they can do the work.

Blimey, that's a great result providing you manage to overcome the difficulty re the original supplier!
Thats my only slight concern. Not really sure why it matters, the tyres are dated so who cares? Hoping to just involve my local tyre shop, although Im wondering if they will want to charge me too.Thats doesnt look right to, but Ive seen other such images in circulation.
Mrs car has cracked sidewalls 3 years in which I think is poor, but I have but down to low profile tyres on the front of a 1.6 fiesta diesel, much pot holes likely not helping.
But thats proper odd, looks like a 10-15yo tyre!

I'm sure I read a thread somewhere about cracking Avon tyres - might be worth a google to see what turns up - sounds like perhaps they know of an issue with tyres purchased during this era.
Interestingly timed thread as i was pondering purchasing some Avons ZT7s for my car off the back of generally very positive reviews on-line.
