One of the advantages of PH is that there is knowledge aplenty when you have none!

I don't own a television and haven't used one in years. I use a laptop whenever I want to watch something. As a consequence I know very little about the subject.

I'd like to buy one as I'm about to move home and it feels like the time is nigh.

My requirements:

Probably 40" sort of size.

I have Kef LSX speakers which have optical, bluetooth and wireless connectivity. I'd like to use these - I assume some TV's have bluetooth output (?) and could connect? Optical at worst (worst because I don't want cables particularly.

Wifi connectivity for the signal. I won't have easy access to an aerial as far as I can tell.

Firestick for the above? Not sure what that entails. Or would wireless do it? Do TV's have browsers/apps?

I watch BBC iPlayer, Netflix, YouTube and Amazon on my laptop... I would need these. I don't need more.

Happy at £300, could go to £500

Sorry to sound to dense - but it's a subject I know little about.

Plenty of 40" TV for £300 to £400 available that should take care of what you want.
Have a look at Richer sounds or JL

I replaced a 10 year old 43 inch tv recently with a Hisense 50b7500

Glad to see it is quite high on the av forum list.

Works well and great colour for the price (via richer sounds) though wasn't far off the price of similarly equipped samsungs or LGs in currys.

Can't comment on the sound as it's wired into an avr, nor can I comment on menu speed or epg particularly as I watch things via humax box or the fire stick.

I do though have a button on the remote that connects to "Rakuten TV", but we're waiting for the right moment before we press it.

We have one in the bedroom and it’s decent.
