Now this is a dumb decision. Some of this sort of stuff is just better as a joined up program.

What did we do before we joined the EU I know we didn't have much cooperation with some of the continent between 1939 and 1945 but something must have existed for aviation safety from then to the 70's

Why?
Consistent, high standards set by one body have obvious benefits .

But realistically that should be (and I believe is, by and large) done at a global level.
