We currently own both a Cayenne SUV and Coupe, both Hybrid..The Coupe is slightly less roomy in the boot and similar with rear headroom but neither substantial..The Pano roof on the Coupe is fixed ie doesn't open unlike the SUV Cayenne which might be a issue for some..There is also no rear wiper on the Coupe which is a nuisance when the rear screen is wet or grimy..Both drive identically despite what Porsche say..The PASM steel springs offer better feel and a sportier ride versus the Air's plushier ride...horses for courses.!
My choice would be the SUV with Pano roof and steel PASM .
We have a 2017 S Diesel with Air PASM...when I bought that I test drove a car with the Steel PASM and thought it was the drivers choice as gelt more planted without being stiff. Went for Air as we use our car for what it’s intended i.e. trips four up with a roof box and being able to lower the ride height is a big plus for accessing some garages with a roof box.
Had a loan car about three weeks ago,...Cayenne S Coupe with Steel PASM on 22 inch wheels....ride was really firm I thought. Noticeably firmer than either our Cayenne or our Macan Turbo PP.

I agree with this..The 22'' rims with rubber band tyres are totally incompatible with steel springs..Ideally the Cayenne on steels need a maximum of 21'' or preferably 20'' rims.The new 3 chamber Air suspension on our Coupe is very impressive however steels make the Cayenne drive more Porsche like, if you know what i mean..The Air suits the Cayenne's multi purpose use better because you can vary the height although the payoff is a less sporty drive as you said.

I bought a Coupe for everyday use, absolutely love it. I went for one of the sport packs, mainly because I wanted the 22 wheels and interior which only come with those packs. Air suspension is perfect with the 22s.
I was very torn between SUV and Coupe, they look so different. I’m glad I went coupe in the end mainly because I must pass 10+ SUVs during my daily commute (of only 3 miles each way!). I know they are not loved by everybody, but as a daily drive I love it. Especially since 90% of my driving can be down on the battery.

I have a new shape Jimny for off road, we live in the country so perfect for all year conditions, A Cayman for fun, and had a 991 which I find I’m using for longer trip, cruising around, not what I bought it for or necessarily intended, so a waste of talent IMO. hence the Cayenne.You wouldn't commute in a tractor, or a steam engine, would you?

I’m lucky on that front as we don’t see many of either, you must live in an affluent area😀I was very torn between SUV and Coupe, they look so different. I’m 80% on the Coupé 20% SUV at the minute, interesting I speced both with same options bearing in mind Coupé come with a few additions all ready, and both came out exactly the same price.

I don’t go off road but the trouble is the packaging of most modern cars. I’m a bit over 6ft and the thing that made me buy an SUV is being able to have the drivers seat where I want and at that stage have kids in car seats behind me (they take up more room than a teenager)....I looked at 5 series and A6 estates (previous gen) and the rear seat space was way less than the X5 I bought at that time and the Cayenne I replaced it with. You wouldn't commute in a tractor, or a steam engine, would you?
Understand the current A6 is better so may look at the RS^ in the future.
Whenever Chris Harris rants about SUV’s I always think he misses the point about packaging but then he’s not tall is he. `Mate of mine is 5’6” and his wife is 5’ he used to run a DB9 which he called him family car....he could because his kids could sit in the back seats because he’s short.
Rear room in a Panamera is excellent but boot space isn’t great if you have dogs and do long haul trips for family holiday’s

What a muppet comment. I never go off road and I never drive fast on the road anymore, so I can’t think of any other car which is more suitable for our crap roads which are full of traffic than an fully loaded SUV. If you hate them so much why are you reading a forum thread about them??? Can’t stand opinionated idiots who think they know better than the person who actually wants to buy a vehicle for their own needs.You wouldn't commute in a tractor, or a steam engine, would you?
I drove the 125 miles back from Oulton park yesterday morning in my Cayenne Coupe hybrid and couldn't think of another car i'd have prefered..Its higher than normal cars which aids visibility and very quick with amazing handling for a SUV..Both the Cayenne Coupe and SUV are brilliant family cars and can't see me going back to a saloon in a hurry.
I like both (and for the untrained eye they look kind of similar). My reasoning would be, that since you have taken the decision to have a big SUV with a big footprint anyway, why not go for the non-coupe as at least you are maxing out on the space should you ever need it. I also think that a retractable glass roof has its obvious advantages. The coupe is more a fad, I would go for the full (fat) SUV. If you don’t need the space behind the b-pillars anyway go for a Mecan.

Great comment, just the type of car I’m after, I’m sold. Do you have any must have options?I’m thinking, air suspension, sport chrono, pano, heated front seats, sports exhaust tips, privacy glass, 21” , Bose, I think that’s it.

I’m going to get both models parked next to each other and decide, for me the slight loss of luggage space is neither here nor there, it’s down to my preference on looks.Our family car is a 2018 Cayenne S, which we’ve had almost 2 years now. I just spent 2 days in a loan Coupe hybrid, and although I loved the clever hybrid drivetrain, I couldn’t warm to the coupe. Combined with the loss of space due to the massive batteries, the boot was quite a lot smaller, and the rear seats also don’t slide back and forth like in the SUV (useful when you combine small kids with loads of camping gear in the boot). The lack of a rear wiper was annoying, but realistically most people park using cameras these days, so maybe I’m just old fashioned in that respect!
