Advice on buying an Audi A6 1997
Discussion
I am looking at an Audi A6 1997 for sale, with just over 100k miles. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with these models - particularly that year. Any issues with reliability? Are they a comfortable and fun drive?
Also, how much are they really worth given they are in good condition? The owner is after 500. MOT expires July 2020.
Cheers

I had a 98 1.8T saloon from new to 120K miles and a 99 1.8T Estate second hand for about 90K miles. They are comfortable and reliable. My 99 estate had been clocked and had at least 180K miles on it when I sold it because I couldn't be bothered to fix the leaking exhaust manifold. They are not what I would call fun but OK for a boxy saloon. Never drove the diesel, and the 2,3 V6 was worse than the 1.8T in most aspects. A 2.7T was great for performance but awful for fuel consumption. Can you go wrong at £500?
The diesel in '97 would have been a 110bhp with a 5-speed box and not the best for the weight.
The PD130 that replaced it in 2001 was a cracker, and the 6-speed version probably one of the best combos for a comfortable daily. One of my mates has an estate with 350k on it, a final edition from 2005 and regularly does 600 miles a day in it.
