Need a cheap runabout max £2k

Need a cheap runabout car, requirements are:

-Petrol
-Max £2k
-no bigger than a Ford Focus in size
-Reliable
-Comfortable, doing a few long journeys in the coming year

Was thinking of something Japanese and petrol, however I'm struggling to find decent examples without missing MOT/service history

I think the answer is in your original post- Ford Focus, probably a 1.6 petrol would be best.

The thing is though I would be going on Autotrader and Gumtree, eBay etc and putting in a max value of 2k and just seeing what comes up and sorting through the results, I don't think with a 2k budget its wise to be narrowing down your field to specific countries of origin (alright maybe avoid French). but otherwise I'd keep an open mind and I think you may be surprised what you can find.

I got a 1.4 K11 Micra coming up for sale soon with all it's welding just done (I made the mistake of going looking!), with the JDM interior that I've used to cross half the country in single bounds. Only things not working are the air conditioning and the parking sensors and the former I think I have the last pipe for, and the latter if you need in a Micra you need a slap.

There will be three things left over after the apocalypse. Nissan CG engines like those in Micras, Cockroaches and Volvo estates.

Honda Jazz is worth a look. My wife's is nearing 100k miles and i think the only thing it's needed besides servicing items was a replacement rear spring.
Waiting for a replacement bonnet to come up on Ebay before we sell it though as the paint has weathered and crazed really badly, making me wonder if the previous owner damaged it and had it resprayed.

Honda Civic 2.0 petrol type S
I paid £750 for mine.
I took one from 88k-123k in 18 months.

2 services brake pads and an exhaust in that time.

Pretty cheap really as I thrashed it a lot. Chain driven bomb proof engine.

Sold it for what I originally paid. Still wish I had kept it.
