Any one remember this car from the early 60s. Mate of mine is going to be importing a replica built in the U S with all VW bits, rhd and to be called the Speedster. Expect prices to be sub £25k, he's getting a lot of interest , any one got a picture?

Chesil have been flogging a great one for years - £25k may be a little too strong - especially since someone on PH was talking about selling a genuine one for that money recently.

I'd say a ceiling price of £15k is the max the market would stand

I've spoken to the man and he assures me that there,s not one of these in the country, and he'll have the sole distributorship !!

There are quite a few differnt speedster replicas about out there- most are beetle based, using a shortened Bettle chassis, tho not all use a VW powerplant, Alfa & Subaru turbo boxer power plants have also been used.

See here for some links-

Also the old rear engine Skodas have been used as bases too.

There is even a Metro based speedster replica out there!

Edited to add metro based pic-

As far as I am aware there is no such thing as the Speedster GTS, but there was a GT model - uprated brakes and engine, but visually identical to the "standard" speedster. As someone above said, www.chesil.co.uk already produce a very well regarded replica, and the "GT" bit is irrelevant as no replica would actually use the old parts - all use uprated engines and brakes.

There will be a Speedster GTS in September when he starts bringing them in. Seen a picture and it looks gorgeous.
