Major service = free 111 point warranty check?
Discussion
I have an upcoming major on my GT4 and I might take the opportunity to extend the warranty even though it is not expiring for a while. I recently had reason to telephone Porsche about some things and they said it was possible to extend the warranty whenever you wish, regardless of the expiry date.
Logic would suggest that a major service is likely to cover off most, if not all, of the 111 point warranty check work and I have read in the past that some OPCs do not charge for the check in this scenario. Is that realistic? I plan to phone my OPC and ask for this but it would be handy to be able to cite recent precedent. My local is Guildford for what it's worth but I am happy to travel anywhere.

You have to be within 3 months of the warranty expiring in order to extend it (so I was told and recently experienced having just done this last week).Logic would suggest that a major service is likely to cover off most, if not all, of the 111 point warranty check work and I have read in the past that some OPCs do not charge for the check in this scenario. The inspection report does look almost identical to the one they do at service time thats for sure...... but i doubt they'd miss the money-making opportunity?

That would certainly make more sense than what the guy at Porsche Customer Service told me. I was very clear with my question and he went away for a couple of minutes to look it up but his answer surprised me. I perhaps need to call them a second time and if I receive the same answer, get it in writing.I'll do that and then give Guildford a call and see if I can wangle the free check.

Thanks - which OPC out of interest? Seems like they can all make their own rules on this sort of thing and it is not mandated by HQ.
If by HQ you mean Porsche, the centers (unless one of the 4 centers that are actually Porsche GB which I believe are East London, Reading, Silverstone and Guildford - I think) the rest are just franchises and whilst governed by some rules the pricing is set by the 'Group' (Sytner, Inchcape etc) which is why you see variations from place to place.Much like Burger King I guess, they all do the same food as each other but prices vary on location and are not centrally owned by Burger King but whomever decides to buy into the franchise and adhere to the rules.

FOC with MOT i was offered from OPC.
Me too, May 2019.Booked in for MOT, 111 point check, and warranty extension.
DP emailed: "I have spoken to my Aftersales Manager and we would like to offer you this 111 point check free of charge, I can see by your details below that you are local to us and are also a good customer of ours."
Indeed the 111 point check was free, but the car failed on Zunsport grilles and I've dropped out of warranty and OPC servicing now. Car is coming up 6 years old.
Oh joy to be set free!!!

Still you may have had a lucky escape. OPC network clearly overrated.
