Insurance for new S1000RR
Discussion
I'm sure I've seen similar threads in the past but can't find 'em now.
I'm hoping to buy a new S1000RR sometime this year and have just been looking at some insurance comparison sites to get an idea.
Holy sh*t !!!! It's looking like around £2k. My current bike is a 2012 Daytona and that's £120.
I was just wondering if any other S1000RR (or similar bikes) owners had any tips to get the quote down a bit. Any particular companies I should be looking at rather than the usual meerkat stuff?

Welcome to the world of silly bike prices and even sillier insurance. Anything north of £15k seems to attract a thumping premium. Try Bemoto or Carole Nash. I think I paid £600 last year for my blade with Bemoto with a £15k valuation , this year £200 through Carole Nash with an £11k valuation. One small benefit of thumping depreciation!

The premium is high because it’s a new bike and also new to you.
Bet it has a massive excess too.
I don’t think price has much to do with it. For cars £5k or £75k value makes little difference itself.
Also, being a new bike, part sourcing and repairs will be difficult - also less of them on the roads, so less premiums written meaning by the law of numbers the premium and excess will be higher. Having the newest and best things come with a premium.Bet it has a massive excess too.

I'm no insurance expert, but here is my experience.
Bought my H2 new. As it was only out 1 year before the only a few instance companies would insure these bikes the premium was Huge
1k for my first year where as my blade cost me £150 a year.
I was told this was that they don't know how the "H2" crashes and risk involved with these bikes. or something like that.
4 years on and the bikes still worth 19K + but insurance is under £300 a year.
With no points (ha),no convictions but still living in a big city, but with a few well chosen security measures.
But saying that there are are many things to increase or decrease your insurance. As I said i'm no expert unlike many on here

Just done a quote on a new Ducati V2 i've been hankering over, needless to say one won't be arriving in my garage anytime soon.

51 years old, clean license for many years, bike kept in the garage but I do however have only 2 years no claims on a bike.
Cheapest quote was just over a grand.

At least it's help to whittle down what bike i'm after.

Have you tried BMW's insurance - it's a actually Devitt. They tend to be quite competative. Their number is 0345 300 4504.
I think they also show up on MCN compare. I tend to use that site more than the other search sites. They were the cheapest for my K1300S last year (sold now)
Holy smokes that's a lot! (And not to mention, the £120 on the Triumph is a bargain!)
I used Bennetts, I was also shopping around and they were competitive at my renewal so I stayed with them for the second year, but it is still around £500 for a CBF1000 that's like 14 years old now and not worth much in terms of market value.
Zero points, fines, etc and in my 30's with 12 years riding experience for comparison.

I've been priced out this way before as well. Quite annoying, I was glad in the end as buying a Suzuki instead saved me a few quid in the longer run.
I'd try whoever underwrites for BMW along with the usual suspects A.Flux, Carol Nash etc.
We used to have a tamed insurance chap on here, I'm sure explained the rationale insurance companies use previously. There's normal method to their madness, even if it is still madness...

I had the same problem 2 years ago when I bought a Panigale V4 after they had just come out, wasn’t on insurance database etc, plenty of NCB,garaged and no accidents or thefts and was getting stupid quotes like £1500 TPO, managed to find one for £900 Fully Comp with a £500 excess, last year on renewal it was just over £700 and hopefully less this year.
Insurance rates vary widely from rider to rider. Your premiums are determined by a wide array of factors, which include your age, location, driving record, credit, coverage options, and the year of your machine.

Male, 26, Dairyland: $750 / year. (Quoted as high as $3000 / year.)

I can see that insurance is going to play a much larger part in choosing my next bike than I anticipated at my age.
Just had a look at the MT 10 touring and the BMW S1000 R, MT 10 was about £390 fully comp (happy with that) but the BMW was over £800

Thought I was going to be doing a lot of demo rides this year but apparently not.
Just edited to add that I did expect the BMW to be more but not that much more.
