Hi

Looks for advice from anyone may have been in a similar situation.

I have found a lease deal that I want to go for however I've been waiting to get a confirmation of my credit score/report for applying and minimising the risk of being declined.

I have no concerns about the scores from Experian or Equifax however I previously read on here that if those companies don't have you as being on the Electoral roll then you're very likely to be rejected.

I moved house in January and received a letter last month confirming I would be registered on 2 March 2020 and local authority confirmed they already passed this information on to the credit agencies.

I contacted Experian and they confirmed that it will take 6-8 weeks to update -

"In the meantime, you can still apply for credit, but it’s a good idea to provide the company with a copy of the confirmation letter from your council so that they can see that you’ve registered."

So ultimately my question is, should I proceed with the above advice or am I still safer waiting the 6-8 weeks for their records to officially update?

The wait would be annoying as I would most likely be looking at least a couple of months wait after ordering the car as well.

Thanks

The copy of the electoral register that the council gives to credit companies, is given to them once a month. I have worked in the electoral services office within my local council, and we used to do it at the end of the month. So if you were registered on 2 March and you get a credit check on 31 March then the credit checker should be able to see it.

It may differ from council to council; it's possible your local council does it for example on the 15th off the month, in which case Experian will have it on 15 March and you can get the credit next week.

But you won't be waiting longer than a month.

To the best of my knowledge the letter from the council will be considered valid right now. At least that's what we used to tell people with the same issues as yourself. smile
