My German daughter-in-law still has her grandfather’s wedding ring that he wore in the trenches in 1914-1918, and his Iron Cross, they were handed down to her, he made it home.
She also has her father’s Iron Cross from WW2, and a Luger with an incomplete clip of bullets.
It’s hidden in my son’s cellar in Germany.
She thinks that her father picked that up, because as a Scharfschütze, (sniper), he probably wouldn’t have been issued with it.
