RS3 vs M140i vs Golf R Vs A AMG???

So it seems at £20k these are the only choices for the super hot hatch, let me know your choice???

At £20K id be in the Golf R.
It's the best all round car, all be it a bit boring but I'd wake that up with a remap which totally transforms the car.

All dull and boring and you'd be doing well to use even 2/3rds of their available power on public roads for any more than a few seconds at a time.

M140i far from dull or boring. Fantastic engine. Owned a golf R as well.

Would take another golf R from the ops list. Best all rounder at 20k. Might even sneak a facelift one with digital cockpit at that money.

M140i then the Golf as a good but dull all rounder. I had the M135i previously and it was a riot. Hopeless in poor conditions but a lot of drama and fun the rest of the time. RWD and 6 cylinders make it feel a lot more special than the 4 pots. I've not driven the RS3 so I'd have to test one before making my mind up but every Audi I've driven in the last 10 years has felt really heavy up front.
The resulting understeer means it starts in last place out of the four although the engine sounds nicer than the Golf and Merc.

A45 as of the list they seem least likely to be stolen. M140i has the best "sounding" engine but the AMG for it's ability to just about settle down and do 30+mpg is impressive.

Golf R I'd still have to think about it if you held a gun to my head, as it would just be someone else stood there with a knife two minutes later.

a lighter and less powerful car with smaller tyres will be infinitely more fun.

Its the torsional rigidity and unnecessary section width that makes your proposed cars so boring.

Hadn't thought of the CLA estate!

Hyundai is meant to be good, but I am imagining horrendous depreciation and a lot less performance than the other candidates?

Volvo is in my age range but I am in denial

AMG A45 seems to be the most tuneable and depreication proof!!!!

Depreciation is actually on par with their rivals they have a nice following & the Five year warranty helps keep used prices strong.

The Volvo is a properly quick & a good steer try one before writing it off, the CLA/A45 feel the most special with the RS3 just behind with that bombastic 5pot but in all honesty out of this & the Polestar I'd take the Polestar.

To be fair he is right. I had a Golf R and it was stolen twelve times and I was killed twice in home invasion burglaries. They also bummed my cat. Not really worth it to be honest.

Golf R - decent enough all rounder, but dull and boring.

A45 AMG - manically quick, not the easiest to live with day to day, possibly over capable, but probably the quickest B road car of the four, if not the most FUN. Can be a bit of a worry outside warranty - gearbox problems particularly on pre-facelift cars. Had a 2016 one for three years from new.

M140i - currently have one. Probably as quick in a straight line as the A45, but doesnt handle great. Not bad handling but not perfect particularly at the rear. Struggles to get power down in all but dry surfaces. Fun to drive, characterful engine. Amazing value. Good tuning options.

RS3 - Havent owned one. Very quick, but a bit of a rep for not being the best of handlers.
