Due to Apple’s planned obsolescence, I can now no longer update my very aged Airport Express with the network settings on my Mac. I am simply after a plug in (ie no power lead) wireless ‘router’ that accepts a Cat5 Ethernet cable input and creates a wireless network. Anything available? I don’t want a wireless range extender as the network is for a cabin miles from the house, but supplied with a network cable.

On the assumption "miles" doesnt actually mean miles, but instead "quite a long way, but well within 100M of Cat5 or 6", you might look at Ubiquiti, and one of their APs. Powered by a 24v PoE injector, you should be able to bung an AP in the cabin, and have the AP provide wireless. You'll need to think about the controller though, maybe run it on a device inside the house. You can buy Cloud Key, not convinced its worth it for a single AP.
