Towing car under £5K

Afternoon all

My parents car has just given up the ghost so they're on the look out for a new one.

Criteria is;

Under £5K
Able to tow a caravan (it's only a 3 birth thing, don't know the weight)
Preferably 4x4
Reliable (As reliable as under £5K buys you anyway...)

My suggestions to them were either a CR-V or a Rav4, possibly a V70 D5. This was purely as both Honda and Toyota have worked out well for me in the past, I've never towed anything.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Range Rover / Early Disco 3 with a brave pill

If it doesn't have to be 4x4... focus, mondeo, volvo...

So with the £1500 spent on wheels it leaves a budget of £3500 to find a vehicle to fit them to...

Not sure a set of alloys are capable of towing.

We had an '04 VTEC CRV which was the epitome of reliability. I only towed a little Erde trailer with it mind.

How about Nissan X-Trail?

CR-V or Rav 4 would be my choices.

Or else an XC60 if they don't mind higher mileage which they can take with ease.

The towing bit is easy, what else do they need from it?

Best tow cars I have used have been rear wheel drive, anything from 320d upwards will tow well.

Some of the 4x4 look SUV are rubbish for towing, so do some research first.
