Golf Mk8 ordered
Discussion
I just placed an order for a new Golf Mk8.
It's in Style trim (the new name for GT) with the new 150hp eTSI / DSG drivetrain and options of metallic Atlantic blue, light interior, pan roof and rear camera. I've managed a 14% discount against retail price with a PCP (that I intend to settle later), which seems good going at the start of the Mk8's life. I've been quoted 12-16 weeks' lead time, although who knows what Covid-19 will do to that.
This is going to be used as our town car with some occasional long journeys thrown in, run alongside our VW van. Because we have 2 kids, I really couldn't see the benefit of a higher performance variant and I expect I'd get overly precious about anything nicer than this Golf! It replaces a Lexus CT200h, which is solid car... I just don't like it, can't explain why.
It's not a very interesting car really, but I thought I'd post here as I haven't seen anything else about Mk8 Golfs.

It is indeed!
I probably change cars too often, although I have only made factory orders twice before (2006 and 2015). The idea is for this one to be a keeper, much like our van - hence the personal spec. Budget really didn't matter, but this just a fancy runabout as we commute by bike.
The one thing that stands out to me is that I've always admired how Golfs in the right colour / spec combination age well.
The Mk8 Golf comes with quite a decent spec so there wasn't a need to add much. I'd only really like the Harmon Kardon hifi, which isn't yet available but isn't a deal breaker given the few occasions I'd benefit from it.
