Hi all,

I am in need of some advice from anyone who is involved in web design/ software design.

I have a "nearly completed" working predictive model which takes an input image uploaded by a user then based on lots of test data predicts where a users attention will be drawn to and outputs this as a heat-map over the image. This is great for testing ad designs/ web designs etc and provides some real use when not having the time for full A/B testing etc.

I am hoping with my predictive model and some tweaking to launch a new business which for a monthly fee users can have unlimited access to the model and run test's to their hearts content. I am thinking marketing agencies mainly but also many other business' who design and advertise using their own work.

Now this is where I have a dilemma and need some advice. My original thinking was to go the desktop application route and have the end user download the software platform and access the models functions by going through the app this way but then I have had a thought of just creating a simple login page on the website which will then take the user to a "web portal" (correct me if I am wrong).

Is it possible to have a web portal dashboard for clients to login into using their own details and be able to upload/ download images and run the predictive model on these images through the dashboard?

At this moment in time everything seems to just be an idea that I am jotting down on paper but I am hoping to have something up and running sometime in the near future.

In reference to all of the above to just make things clearer.....

I have a model which predicts where potential customer will look on your advert
You have multiple adverts and want to see which will potentially perform the best
You pay the monthly sub to use the software and login through our website
You get to your own dashboard and upload these images
Once uploaded you wait for the predictive model to do its thing and then get the output directly into your dashboard of the original images but mapped with the heat-map.

Is this possible?

Thank you in advance all and sorry for the long post smile

My understanding of HotJar is a behavioural analysis tool fed by data collected from your site such as clicks etc and then maps these out. What I have seen of HotJar which has been limited seems to be a great piece of software but does not use machine learning algorithms to predict attention on fresh images/ad designs/ landing pages etc.

Now I could be wrong and you have more experience with HotJar than what I've seen but that is my understanding.

The idea of using machine learning algorithms in my own case was to provide a quick, simple and clean attention heat map which gives an insight into where potential end users would be focusing their attention without the need for large data collections and full A/B testing. It's a clean looking prediction as an end product something I believe we can offer very soon.

Professional software engineer here. It sounds like a great idea and you are right to make it web based. I think the kind of people willing to pay for this will not be expecting to download software to make it happen. It can all happen in the browser - user uploads an image, your backend crunches the data and then returns the result to the user.

Is it possible?

Yes.

would you hosting it & crunching the data also be useful in that it more easily gives you useful data with which to continue to feed your ML system?

How does your code run?
If you can call your code from a web browser (ie on your server) then it is a very simple thing to do, a login system is not complex, a portal is simply web code that sits behind a login - or it checks that the user has the privileges to run that page - nothing different otherwise to a normal web page...
As said above - perfect for capturing data on what happens

All you are doing is an upload and run an event once its uploaded.
Very simple to do.

Our devs all code in asp.net and do something similar in one of our clients systems for document upload via drag / drop.

Hi all, thank you all for the info. I have the model very close to completion. The problem was not I dont know what a web portal is but more of a if I have a web portal would it be possible to run a machine learning event on this.

Super excited to get this up and running and hoping for a nice project to occupy my time.

If anyone would like access to the model when I've got it up and running and thinks it would be beneficial just pm me smile

How does your model run? i.e. Is it a script that runs on the command line or is it some kind of executable?

There are plenty of ways to set this up as a SaaS business - there are several services out there which would handle the payments side of things (Stripe and Braintree for instance). Depending on how your model executes, you could get that setup to run in the cloud using AWS or DigitalOcean (for example) and then build the portal around these services.

I'm a freelance software engineer and I work on building mobile and web apps for my clients - if you wanted to speak about this some more then feel free to drop me a message.

Yes it's possible. I would look at using a container running on AWS, GCP or Azure.
