Hello All
Thanks to those who responded to my last post. I am looking to buy my first 911 and had come to the conclusion that a 993 bi turbo was my ideal car. Sadly when I sat in one for the first time recently I found that my six foot five frame was a bit much for one. A 964 offers more space but I still fancy a 993. The problem is that the steering wheel is too close to my legs. Does anybody know have experience of fitting a smaller wheel to allow more room? I am also told that LHD is better suited to larger chaps. Any suggestions with regard to solutions would be most welcome.
Cheers

I think you'll find internal dimensions of the 964 and 993 are identical.
The obvious option is a smaller steering wheel. I also know someone who extended the steering column to achieve more room around the knees:

I don't know if bucket seats sit lower and would thus give more room between knees and steering wheel? If you are intending to do a few trackdays make sure you can fit in the car with a crash helmet before purchasing.

As Dazren says, you could try extending the steering column a bit (I intend to extend the column + fit a snap-off steering wheel to my 944 for the same reason)
Try demon tweeks for the column extender (you wil need an after-market wheel though IIRC)

try LHD - makes a huge difference. I'm pretty lanky, about 6'4" and find LHD is comfortable, whereas RHD is, well, not.
I understand that there are two mounting positions for the front seats - using the rear ones can make about an inch difference.
Finally I would also say try several, for some reason different cars do feel different - maybe the different seats: sport vs comfort that sort of thing.
Finally (again) you could try a 996 ...

I am 6ft 5 and have a LHD 87 Supersport, has loads of head and leg room. The passenger seat is a bit short on leg room though, wouldn't want to sit in it on a long drive, but who would .
I think the lack of sun roof makes a lot of difference.
I sat in various RHD models and none of them seemed to be the same. I think the seat can be moved back on the rails, which would make a huge difference though.
Not sat in a 993, so can't pass comment. Would be surprised if it was smaller though.
