My first Porsche was a brand new manual 981 Boxster S, bought about 5 years ago. Great car, took it around Europe and had a lot of fun. But I needed to scratch the 911 itch, so traded it in for a new 991.2 GTS, specced exactly how I wanted it (manual, rws, alcantara delete). Fabulous car, but couldn’t use the power properly on the road without risking my licence big time and as a second car, wasn’t using it as much as it deserved. Also, a lot of money tied up in what was basically a toy. So after 18 months, head ruled heart and I traded in, cash in bank and got a pdk 718 Boxster T. Great handling, steering, mid range torque etc - but just couldn’t get excited driving it. It’s so bloody quiet!

Looked at the new 718 4.0 GTS, but £73k for the spec I wanted. So - just agreed trading the T in for a 981 BGTS.

Not sure how long I will keep it, but planning a longer time and really looking forward to summer!

Oh- and my username is accurate once again!

Interesting story, and I suspect not unique.

But, tell us, is the BGTS manual or PDK?

Manual.
I thought pdk was fine in the 992’s I’ve test driven, but I think a manual suits the Boxster better - possibly because I’m in my 60’s now and getting stuck in my ways!!

The Boxster 981 GTS is a great all rounder plenty fast enough and has one of the best sounds .
I Know à lot of people going this route.

Ironically I nearly traded my 981 BGTS in for a low mileage used 991/2 GTS. I decided not to for the same reason - frustration of having such a powerful, though great car with only being able to use a tiny part of its performance potential. I realised in time it would be a waste of money. Had the BGTS five years from new and still love it as much now as I did when new!

The former Head of Sales at my OPC told me he thought the 981 GTS (with the right spec) was the nicest drivers road car that Porsche made (he had a 981 GT4)...he “left the brand: before the 718 4.0 based cars were announced.

I've just come out of an BMW M2. I've not owned a Porsche before, but I have always desired one so that is going to be my next step. My target car that I am now looking to get into would ideally be a BGTS if I can find the right price/spec etc.

The Boxster S would be great, but I know that I may be left wondering if the GTS would be worth that extra stretch.

So it's great to hear the positive feedback on this model, and hopefully I can join the clan very soon.

I've got a 981 S with raceheaders =PSE + Stage 2 tune as well as GTS body kit, it sounds amazing.

Yesterday had a 718 GTS (Turbo version) owner come over in the petrol station and asked how he made his sound like mine....

I try not to use it everyday as it will loose its "specialness feeling" so go back to my 1.9TDI as a daily haha.

Picked it up this afternoon.
The 50 something miles home somehow turned into nearly 200 miles and the smiles back on my face!
