Evoque, as bad as JLR’s reputation suggests?

As per the title.
My wife has set her heart on one of these as a retirement present to herself. She wants the petrol version and we have looked at some very nice looking cars.
As something that had never been on my radar until she said she wanted one, I know precious little about them. Are they as unreliable as lore would suggest?

My dad is on his third, all diesels. Currently in a 19 plate D180 R-Dynamic SE which he got about a fortnight ago replacing a 14 plate SD4 Dynamic, he wouldn't have anything else now. He's looked at every other similar sort of SUV from the Germans and they all have left him cold. They're comfortable, fairly compact and still look fantastic - the new model is packed with tech.
He hasn't had many problems with them, a sticky door latch on one and a dodgy electric window on another but besides that they've been as reliable as the German stuff he had previously. Servicing isn't cheap but the current one and the last one had the service plan so it wasn't so bad.

I test drove a petrol/manual two years ago, as my wife was also in love with them. I really like the car, quite compact, and fun to drive. The size is excellent imho, for an SUV, as I even went to tight parking spaces in Westfield.
The issue, both my dad and my best mates suffered from LR(Discovery) a lot in the past, so I could not trust the brand and did not purchase it, even though most say Evoques and Freelander2 are not unreliable.

The responses have been far more positive than I thought they would be. This is a good thing as she has picked the one she wants.
What has amazed me is how outstandingly useless and difficult JLR dealers are to deal with.
So far, I have dealt with 3 dealers and only found one person so far that seems every vaguely competent.

If they are this indifferent when you are buying you can imagine how many sThe responses have been far more positive than I thought they would be. This is a good thing as she has picked the one she wants.

ts they give when they already have your money and your car is broken. The JLR dealer experience alone is enough to put me off owning a new or new-ish one ever again.The ride on most crossover/SUV things is poor; they seem to need stiff suspension to control the body movements, giving it the "car like handling" that magazines go on about. Ex wifes XC60 rides like crap, even though it's on 60 profile tyres.

See if you can convince her with another option if you guys have not bought it yet? Toyota or Lexus options are much more reliable. I took mine to Lexus dealer, and both smooth test drive and dealer behaviour made her convince... (and our family/friends experiences with LR)Lexus NX or Toyota Rav4 would be worth to visit!
