Corona Virus and surgery

I am due to have an operation a week on Tuesday (minor op, removing grommet from ear). The hospital I am due to have the op at has a handful of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in some wards, which have now been closed to new admissions and visitors. In light of this, is there a chance of elective surgery at affected hospitals being affected? I plan to call the admissions number for an update, but thought I'd comment here purely on the basis of how this could actually affect all elective / non emergency surgery.

A friend of mine (London based) is in a similar position to you. He has elected for titanium testicle installation. However, because it's classed as cosmetic surgery, he may have to visit one of the private London clinics instead. I'm on the list for titanium ossicles, I'm expecting I'll be deaf a bit longer than planned...

A friend of mine (London based) is in a similar position to you. He has elected for titanium testicle installation. However, because it's classed as cosmetic surgery, he may have to visit one of the private London clinics instead. I'm on the list for titanium ossicles, I'm expecting I'll be deaf a bit longer than planned...

I’m due elective surgery end of this month - gall bladder removal. Also due to go to France tomorrow (skiing) back Wed so 9 days before op.
Asked if I could still go skiing. Answer was yes unless govt puts in a ban. ( I’ve now decided to give it a miss anyway)
Had the routine blood test on Wed this week (so they can determine blood group in case transfusion neeeded) and, again, it’s business as usual and they intend to go ahead with op.
Of course it may be different if they were dealing with CV cases right now and it could all change. But that’s my experience so far.

I had a letter from St.Thomas’s Hospital, London, telling me that my cataract day surgery is scheduled for April 27th.I called them with a minor query, and while on the line, I asked about admissions during this virus thing, they said, “Unless we advise you not to, just turn up on the day.”
Some of the Leeds hospitals have started to reduce elective surgeries now
I only know as I was in for a hernia op on Friday so had a keen interest to keep up to date plus I know some of the staff at the leeds hospitals
I went private so my hospital was unaffected but they were talking about changes coming in 'shortly'. They thought busier as they would take some of the NHS elective cases.
My main concern pre surgery (and still) was follow up care of issues occurred...time will tell if that's an issue

Non-urgent operations such as knee or hip replacements will be cancelled to free up space for Covid-19 patients
The cancellation of swathes of non-urgent - or "elective" - surgery will help to free up space, Mr Hancock said.
He said the sorts of operations that could be delayed "in this emergency" situation included hip and knee operations.
Operating theatres where these procedures are normally carried out are equipped with oxygen supplies, meaning they "can be turned into wards" for coronavirus patients.
This measure is "one of the first things that we're going to do", he added. "
They will carry on doing Cancer surgery, emergencies including obstetric and baby deliveries, broken bones and abdominal/vascular surgical emergencies.
I expect most of the other stuff will slide, rightly.
Each Hospital Trust will therefore (likely tomorrow) announce their response and cancel waiting list (elective) surgery as appropriate.

TheAngryDog got angrier So as it happens, had a call from the hospital today. All non urgent surgery is postponed for the foreseeable and they do not know when that will change. I was fine about it, expected it, almost glad. I bet they have been copping a lot of grief though.
