How can I legally put number plate on without repairing bump

Bumper has fallen off and plastic is cracked in places you can't just put a bolt on and put it back in place.

I asked a police officer if I can remove the bumper and put a number plate in window and he said its illegal(is he right cos I've seen others do it).

If so where can I mount the number plate and be legally able to drive? Can I, and is it possible to mount it on the radiator or somewhere else? I will eventually get the bumper fixed, but until I get it repaired, want a quick fix so I can drive it.

Legally I think you will need to repair it.

Surely if you remove the bumper it wont meet pedestrian safety regs.

I wouldn't recommend driving that until it's repaired.

Plate is supposed to be fixed to a vertical surface at the front of the car.

If you remove the bumper just attach it to the member behind.

Isn't that just a lump of plastic spoiler in front of a real bumper ?

Remove the plastic .. and attach number plate to the front of metal bit.

That said .. unless there is some damage i cant see .. its a pretty quick fix get the part ordered and fix it properly

If there is a metal frame or cross member exposed that would normally be covered, then it will almost certainly be classed as in dangerous and unroadworthy condition and that is far more trouble for you than an improperly displayed plate

Looks like some heavy cracks in the bumper. I suspect this was "assisted removal".

Driver side mirror looks like it's snapped right in too, rather than just folded - so safe to assume it's probably taken a whack whilst parked.

You can probably stitch the bumper back together with zip ties and press it back on if the fixings are still solid, if that doesn't work then I'm guessing a second bumper for a Hyundai coupe isn't going to cost the earth and is probably cheaper than risking getting the car seized at the roadside if stopped and then the palaver of getting it recovered.
